To be able to make a comfortable living from taking and processing photographs.
Scottelly: All I can say is it better be sharper than the 17-40, because it's gong to need to be . . . for the upcoming generation of super-high resolution cameras that are coming. In the next year or two Canon is going to make a full-frame camera that captures over 30 MP photos - maybe even 40 MP. This needs a long life, so it needs to shine, when mounted on that new camera.
Nothing much wrong with my 17-40
I am a long time LR user. I always make a point of directly transferring my RAW photos from my camera card to my hard drive before I import into LR. I have a simple folder system into which I copy my photos. Once I know they are safely there and I have backed them up on my external drives I will proceed to import them into LR.
Shouldn't the picture that came last have won ???
