About me:

At 61 I am still struggling with the switch from 35mm film & learning photoshop &
computers. I am fortunate in bring able to travel several times a year. Whales & other
assorted wildlife in Alaska or Mauii. New York or Vagas etc. I have 15 grandchildren
from
2yrs to 21yrs.& I live in Southern La., 6 blocks from the lake & across from an
exersize
trail ,(the trace}, which leads to a trail with public concerts & a state park with plenty
of wildlife. . As for glass I presently have a sigma 30 1'4, an old
50 1'8, a a 17-55 2.8is, a 24-105L4, a 70-200L4is, an 85 1.8, a
135 2, a 20-35 { old model] but I got it new, a 400 5.6, a 100 macro, a 5D & a 7D.
I have a 530 speed light &
I use a Velborn tri pod & a kirby ball head. I have a couple of 1.4 extenders. One
reporting & one not.
a manfrotto monopod
& am making a sometimes vain attempt at using a mac book pro & CS4 for my Photos.
I forgot , I have a speed light 580 Ex. For printing I have the HP 9180. It allows the
creativity to come out by allowing me to use different media for printing & the use of
pigment colors which I love.

Some time in the
future I would like . a fast wide prime for ff & a 200 2.8. I would like to improve
my skills . I am
presently
being overwelled with people asking for copies of my pict. I started a flicker account
which is under grammieb2008 if anyone is interested. I am not good technically &
arrive by most photographic technique by trial & error.

I have a question for the Dpreview review staff. Why did the 70D get a gold award for a percentage rate 1pt lower than the 7D with a silver award. This is kind of confusing.

In reply to:

mpgxsvcd: Everyone thinks that youtube is always the culprit for compression. In this case it wasn't. This video wasn't rendered to a high enough bit rate or resolution. That was probably because it was so long and would have taken forever to upload.

To still shooters the compression probably was just something they tend to accept. For someone who knows that Youtube doesn't have to have compression artifacts it was very distracting.

Scaling this video to 1440p or 4K would cause YouTube to allocate a much higher bit rate to the video. 4K is actually easier to compress than 1080p @ 60 FPS would be. Therefore, up-scaling this video probably would have produced a much cleaner result.

This was a great video. Watching a professional work is a great learning experience. The segment was entertaining as well as informative. After seeing these wonderful features & results, I don't understand the negative responses. I encourage Dpreview to do more segments such as this. Bab

Looks like a perfect addition to my 5Dlll. I sold my original 7D last year & I have been waiting for this announcement. Bab

I just bought one because I want something a lot smaller than my 5Dlll to take to theme parks with my grandchildren or anytime I want less weight. I wanted a DSLR, since that is what I am used to. It certainly isn't a 5Dlll, but it is a very capable little camera. It is so light & small that it will be no problem when I want to travel light.

I want a 24-70 f/2.8 is that is as good as 70-200 f/2.8 is. If anybody makes one, I will pay whatever I have to. Until then I will make do with primes in this range. At least they are extra fast to make up for everything else. Bab
