Created thread Auto-ISO Discussion for Those in the Know
As those who have actually read the manual (and understand how Auto-ISO works) know, Nikon's Auto-ISO implementation is the best one available. Still, I do wonder about a couple of things.

Replied in Manual mode question: keeping exposure while shifting parameters
Apparently you haven't realized that using a gray card to set exposure is the same as using an incident meter.
In any case, as I said previously, the function you're looking for is provided by...

Replied in A Philosophical Question
People have been spoiled by smart devices and services that you don't have to figure out in order to use, or spend no more than a few seconds looking at symbols to see what you should do. Learning...

Replied in D7000 ISO button is poorly positioned
DPReview has an ISO-button fetish. They always slam Nikon for not having an ISO button near the shutter. Well, now Pentax has dropped the ISO-button-by-the-shutter on the new K-30. Guess they'll...

Replied in Pentax K30
How so? By giving me a product that works so well that I have great confidence in its performance? In that case Nikon can use me all they like!

Replied in Pentax K30
Absolutely not...because I use a Nikon.

Replied in Okay. Perfectly valid.
D7000 can address those, though it's a minor step. Dunno what brand will give better noise performance, though. If that full-frame D600 materializes, that would really be the ticket.

Replied in Pentax K30
You didn't have to. We know you mean Pentax.
being Pentax...
being Nikon...
No. Nikon is better all on its own.
Ya...for Pentax.
Other brands are still clearly superior. You see it here...

Replied in Any reason
What function or feature do you need so badly that you feel compelled to leave Nikon if you don't get it by the fall? What's the "must have" that the D90 doesn't?

Replied in Pentax K30
Yeah...that's the kind of thing that owners of poorly designed cameras typically say. As if you'd actually go out and intentionally buy mediocre equipment because, "I'm a photographer."

Replied in No change this month
Yes, I agree that the demonstration of blur in those images deserves a big yawn. You'd think they would have some portraits when pushing a "portrait" lens. The really funny thing is that before...

Commented on Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm F1.8 Preview preview
That's a misleading statement. Same DOF, but not the same FOV. As you change your distance to get the same FOV as another format, your DOF changes. That's why the crop factor applies to the...

Replied in Exposure Compensation
There is no "cost" to using Exposure Compensation. EC is simply a tool for correcting exposure.
First it's important to understand exactly what EC does. To do that, we must review manual mode...

Replied in Because they have little sensors

Replied in You don't know what you're talking about
The only evidence offered is that you can get blur with close ups. My compact camera can do that.
Thanks. Now I won't get any more of your idiotic responses to my posts.

Replied in No change this month
Yes, it is.

Replied in What he said...but with a personal exception...
I wouldn't argue with that ;)

Replied in Yup...
That's what I thought as well. I tried it comparing 1/2.5" compact to an APS-C, and the apparent distance of distant objects appears the same when the camera position is the same.

Replied in What he said...but with a personal exception...
I think there will be a noticeable difference in noise in an shadow areas, especially any areas with blur (if you can manage any with the 4/3 sensor, that is.) That's my impression from the sample...
