Thank you, bee! Re size, the error message said no length greater than 30000,  but that must be a typo.  The first 3 photos are crops, and (my mistake) are really about 1.5 mb.  They're right...

I have trouble with these kinds of pictures too. After exposing for the background, can you use Exposure Lock while you turn on the flash? Or will turning on the flash override the locked exposure...

My camera club had their monthly outing yesterday, so I got to try my new a77.  I don't have command of this camera yet (much fumbling & bumbling), but had enough positive moments to start to fall...
