Just an opinion: As you are compromising the image stabilization (VR/VC) with the Tamron, then would not you consider the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D? They say its a killer performer.

Are you sure that the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 is a good optics What I heard is that the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 is really a killer performer and a competitor of Nikon...
