Replied in on photographing dark matter
There's been some great feedback that I won't duplicate.
However, I would definitely up the contrast on the camera. I think most people are at zero or slightly positive.
I'd recommend...

Of course, if i spent the $ for that lens, my first picture would be of my wife leaving me ;-).

Replied in I like a lot of option 3
I think I'd add another flash, get a good flash modifier if you don't have one, pick up a couple of light stands and get a good tripod. Oh, and a pair of Pixel King flash triggers once they make...

Replied in A850 portrait / fashion
I actually did exactly that on all of them.
I'll have to take a closer look.
Eyes looked pretty sharp to me, but I didn't look very carefuly to see if anything else was...

Created thread A850 portrait / fashion
Took a class on HSS flash yesterday. Last two are regular sync, others are HSS. It was a bit of a revelation shooting at 2.8 in bright sunlight.
I used my Pixel Kings for the first time too...

Replied in A77 Flash inconsistency - Please do a simple test
I'll try to do this test this weekend.
However, some previous threads implied that the flash issues only occurred with flash comp at zero. Obviously you're having some issues with non-zero comp,...

Replied in Consumer Reports rates the A77, and...
I think you make a good point that lots of consumers will check CR and that that's not good news for SONY.
Can't believe they can't improve the JPG image quality on the A77. I've got to believe...

Replied in Question re AF microadjustment
Just curious. Since autofocus is done in the camera using phase detection, what exactly happens when a lens backfocuses or frontfocuses? Seems like that wouldn't be possible since the camera...

Replied in Online classes
I've actually taken courses at both betterphoto and ppsop. What I like about them is they "force" you to get out and shoot each week and then give you specific criticism of your work by a...

Replied in Flash photo help needed
I would suggest taking some pictures outside since you're not really going to get a bounce off a ceiling that high. Try out some pictures of subjects at about the same distance you expect and...

Replied in weird spot in my pictures
If it's just with that lens, I'd think rear element given that it's reasonably in focus and defined.

Replied in Friedman's book on A77/A65 is ready
The book is great. As usual, Gary has done a great job of figuring out all of the stuff that you could figure out if you had time but never get around to.
Highly recommend it even if you have...

Replied in Does this make sense?
I agree that you should keep it. It's got such great color and fits in a pocket or a small case that the larger lens won't.
