Has a Fuji X series look about it?

Mateus1: HUGE camera for such tiny sensor. Fuji should take lesons from Sony how to put 1" sensor and fast lens into body. Porobably Panasonic LX-8 will be also much smaller than X30. Some APS-C are just a little bigger than X30.

If you want 1inch sensor I'd go Nikon 1! they pack a great punch...

There is simply no need for Fuji to change the sensor size from 2/3 to 1inch... Having used both sensors 2/3 on Fuji XF1 and 1inch on Nikon 1 V1 the quality is better on the Fuji... Mainly due to the layout of pixcels...

Just another Canon shooter: Awful. False patterns, strong moire. Another failure.

Troll around then with your heavy Canon gear... you're not checking these cameras out for yourself - just making comment on reports and images on your screen - I s'pose you could call that 3rd party reviewing... Go try the X series cameras then make a comment. Its true to say that Canon and Nikon are no where near on innovation at the moment - I would say they are probably quaking in their boots and wondering what to do to stop this tidal wave of enthusiasm for other cameras especially the Fuji (using a 1.5 crop sensor) a la Zack Arias, I'll fight you in the street these X series cameras and lenses are the bizness!

No but is nice to have the option of real quality at the high ISO - don't you think?

Karsaq: Most of you guys saying Fuji-X series is amazing and I am planning to buy either X-E2 or X-T1 but at this test X-T1 seems pretty bad as compared any similar category DSLR such as Nikon D7100 and Canon 70D at any ISO.

Moreover the pixel size of D7100 is 15.3 µm² and 70D is 16.9 µm² and X-T1 got Pixel Size 22.6 µm² which means X-T1 supposed to be sharper and less noise as compared to other same category DSLR but its not. For other DSLRs at any ISO I can read (somewhat) any text pretty clear but X-T1 is not really clear.

Buy the X-E2 then! You wont be sorry in any event - Simply put the Fuji X series cameras are setting a very high standard... trust me...

Arpad Lukacs: When I said to a Fuji rep that the X-T1 looks a LITTLE BIT like the Sony A7, he gave me a really dirty look. Even though the next thing I was going to say was that the X-T1 looks much better. Too late, damage done.

This is what the NIKON Df should of looked like!

This is what Nikon should have done, instead of introducing the Nikon 1 system..
I think this is a cool looking camera -It will entice photographers to switch back or into Nikon 'cos as Photographers we like manual dials and knobs, not menu systems, don't we?
Its full frame and takes all the Nikon lenses..
Don't kill this one off guys with negative comments, especially when you haven't even picked the camera up!
I only have one gripe about it - THE DAMN PRICE!
Now what will Canon do - I bet they do something similar!

Spectro: I returned a new (unopened) X-e1 a week and a half ago because I read about the X-e2 rumors with PDAF (the same ones on the x100s, which probably is the same base sony nex sensor with different filter layer). But I am now more interested in the Sony A7, but it is too expensive for me. Can't decide yet.

Get the X-E2 you won't be sorry - If the X-E2 hadn't come out I would of said the X-E1. and a load of quality Fujinon lenses available to add to your kit if you need!
I've got the X-E1 with 18-55mm lens after selling all of my Nikon digital gear and haven't regretted it...
Sony A7 looks good but I think its a little expensive, and they don't have a lot of lenses to go with this new camera either - You'll probably have to wait to mid 2014 for more lenses from Sony for FF, only the 35mm is available at the moment for the A7 and A7R cameras.

Having read all the posts here on the latest from Nikon, it appears to me that you have to be a die hard Nikon to like this camera and what the company is doing..

I've said it before - I think they are lost and losing ground very quickly to Sony especially with Sony's latest A7 and A7R release plus the other manufacturers Fuji, Lumix, Pentax and Olympus who are being so innovative and are listening to their customers...
These are dark days for Nikon I'm afraid... and I don't think Canon are in any better position - to be honest.

I know the D610 is an upgrade but Nikon could of added a little more...
Wifi maybe?
I keep saying this Nikon are losing the plot.

Don't go the Blackberry way Nikon!

'and I hear it is a great camera!'

Oh Shoot... Predictive text again on my iPad, ruining everything. How annoying for you as well, I knew I'd run into an English teacher.
But my comment has obviously hit the right note as it appears (so far) nobody and that includes you Sonnik, has disagreed with me...

Griffo 155: Whilst this is an interesting addition to the Nikon family I hardly think this will dig Nikon out of their lowly market share... Are there so many underwater snorkelers going to invest into this camera. I don't think so!
It may count as a go anywhere travel camera - but I find this as a very strange move by Nikon. To my mind Nikon have clearly lost their way.
Lets wait and see, I hope they have something up their sleeve for the next presentation, which will entice people to buy into or buy back into the Nikon line,
but, one thing's for sure I don't think it will be a D400!

No I mean lowly market share - at Nikon's admittance - in terms of mirrorless cameras. Nikon have got to check out the market mover and shakers like Sony Fuji Panasonic etc. Quality mirrorless cameras are the future and Nikon (and Canon for that fact) are not in the ball game!
This recent product shows me that there is no clear direction at Nikon and that they have lost their way...

Lens looks lovely, bigger than I expected it to be in terms of dimensions.
Would I buy it?
Tough call that with the 18-55mm lens I have do I need it?
Another tough call...
Oh alright then! It's on my shopping list to Santa!

or do I get the XF 18mm f2.

beavertown: Not enough.

Nikon needs to put EVF to a 1" sensor Coolpix and to the APS-C Coolpix A.

Then APS-C Nikon 1 System or at least bigger than the 1" sensor in the 1 System now.

100 pct agree.

Direct link | Posted on Sep 5, 2013 at 11:51 UTC

This has the similarities of a Fuji X series camera with a zoom, but smaller and a much smaller sensor than the Fuji's! To my mind that makes this camera expensive!

MrTaikitso: Dumb question, but which camera offers the best IQ, the NEX series (say the mid range 5R, that I own) or the RX100/(I&II)? I understand the NEX has a larger sensor, so am assuming the only benefit of an RX100 is the genuine pocket ability?

I have used both Nex 3 and Nikon V1 the latter being my preference. I was never happy with the IQ from the NEX3. Blues seemed to be always destroyed by its sensor it would take me ages in LR4 to correct the turquoise blue to real blue! Since I switched to the Nikon1 V1, I've never had that problem...

Digitall: Amazing how Sony is now in its second model of this camera with 1" sensor, and a space of nearly two years there has not been another manufacturer to compete in this segment.

Erm, Nikon 1 are in this market as well and have produced a number of camera bodies V1 V2 J1 J2 J3 over the last 2 years I think you will find that a V3 is soon to come out... Not with standing the body production, Nikon have released a number of quality lenses to fit in their system....
