Opinion: I had the chance to test the Canon XT and Nikon D50 at the same time during a whole day.....and I leant towards the D50...why??? because I noticed eight differences:
1. D50 is less noisy than XT from Iso 200 to 800 and also crispier.
2. DR is better on the D50, ...
3. D50 grip is excellent (to me)
4. The start-up is also a bit faster on the D50...the XT under low light conditions take more than a second to focus properly and raise the flash.
5. Nikon colors are awesome.
6. Battery life is endless.....much much better than XT battery....no doubt on it.
7. 18-55Dx is sharper than 18-55 EFs, in fact, the Canon kit lens is unusable.
8. NEF is less noisy than Canon RAW.
Problems: None so far....its the best amateur DSRL ever made (within the price range).
Opinion: I had an FZ10 for almost a year, I was totally satisfied with my buy and did not plan to upgrade to the FZ20, however a close friend offers me a good money and I sold it almost two months ago........so after thinking about my next toy during a whole week, I took the plunge and went for the FZ20.......Im totally pleased....this camera simply ROCKS....those few gripes that I had with the FZ10 have disappeared.....I mean, no CA, purple fringing, and vignette....pics are so detailed at full resolution and the noise level is below that I expected (now I agree with Dpreview - on the noise issue)
This camera is really hard to beat....the closer competitor I think is the FZ15...and the rest of brands and models within its category are very very far away.
If you are looking at long zoom cameras, this is the camera for you.
Problems: A larger sensor would be great and also a better EVF.
Regards,
Opinion: This is the best DC that I ever had.
The image quality is excelent, very sharp and detail.
Shots taken at Iso 50 have unnoticeable noise levels,
The OIS works fine, I've used this DC even with only a hand at full zoom (under good weather conditions)
12X equivalent to 420mm means that you never are gonna be far from the action.
NO vignette and soft corners, very low CA, free noise at Iso 50, very natural and well-saturated colors.....etc.
What else??? This DC has almost that any serious amateur photographer needs.
Problems: - The Grip is not the best, it is a bit uncomfortable at the beginning, but with a bit of practice, you get used to it easily.
Fortunately the new FZ20 has a grip very-well designed.
- Lack of assistant lamp
- Shutter speeds over 1/1300 are practically useless, Panasonic should allow set an aperture of 2.8 with 1/1600 and 1/2000 s.speeds.
- Noise above Iso 100 is high, but average.
There´s no reason to buy a short zoom DC when you can get a Lumix FZ.
