Richard Murdey: That's it, dpreview has jumped the shark.
I have nothing against dogs, pictures of dogs, or people taking pictures of dogs, but I personally have no interest and, more to the point thats not what I come to dpreview to read about.
Keep the front page to camera reviews.
Some of us *do* come here *also* for these articles.Perhaps dpreview could add a profile preference so "how to's" articles are not shown to everybody. Then again, if this kind of article does not interest you, perhaps you could just not read it...
Iso1975: Maybe I have some eye problem but I really cannot see any improvment on the jpgs. Just look at the face in the coin. The small detail it had was lost, and it looks smeared.Even with RAW files detail is lost. Look at the map picture: the word INDIAN is much more visible in the original FW picture!!!I really don't understand why almost everyone is so excited with this new FW. Pictures don't look better at all!!
Either you do have some eye problem, or you have the order wrong: - LEFT side is the OLD firmware (pre-release 0.2) - RIGHT side is the NEW firmware (release 1.0)
The face shot with fw 1.0 has *much* more detail than the one shot w. fw 0.2. Ditto for the "INDIAN" on the map.
RAW is unchanged in both, as should be expected.
andrea_g: I wonder if VF3 iworks with XZ1 too. It would be perfect on that small camera!
" "The E-PL3 and XZ-1 are virtually the same size [...]" Oh.. and the sensor.. and processing engine, not that those count for anything."
And price: $700 vs $400, not that it counts for anything... ;)
slncezgsi: What would be the reason to get a EVF that is even smaller than the existing one (apart from price maybe)? Just wondering ...
I agree with skueppers - $180 vs $250 makes a *big* difference.
G Davidson: Slightly lower res? Sounds more like 30%, talk about going in the wrong direction! I really don't understand m4/3 updates, where useful things get removed. I suppose right now Canikon can breath a sigh of relief, but sooner or later they'll have a built in one like Fuji's.
"Slightly lower res? Sounds more like 30%"Let's not forget: for a price that is 30% less than the VF-2.How do you say... you get what you pay for?
Willem155: Strange effect. In the top left-hand corner, the sign shows a double image as if the camera has been moved during a long exposure. With the indicated shutterspeed of 1/1000, this is unlikely. What else could explain this efffect ? Internal reflections, lensfilter anti-aliasing filter ?Any suggestions ?Willen van der Vlies
The sign is not showing a 'double image': it is out of focus, as is the cement curb, and it's showing off the shallow depth of field possible with wide aperture lens, commonly called 'bokeh' effect.
