There is always a catch. With deconvolution, one of the catches is increase in the noise level (because noise scews up the deconvolution, which assumes perfect, noise free signal).

Even though obviously a gimmick (I can't image what one would want to shoot at 1200mm equivalent FL; this is the domain for telescopes, with their massive stable tripods and star tracking motors),...

The reason APS-C was developed was because: 1) it was cheaper to manufacture than FF, and 2) it resulted in smaller cameras. The trends in FF sensor pricing suggests that in not so remote future FF...
