About me:

I have a here-and-gone relationship with photography. I got into photography as a teenager. My first SLR was a fully manual Minolta. (Had the needle in the viewfinder.) I had a darkroom set up in my bedroom as a 15 yr old. (Those skills are worth a lot today...lol.) As a teen, I worked for the local newspaper as a sports photographer. I went to college to major in photojournalism but decided to go into education instead. Dropped out of creative photography for awhile. I later got a Fujifilm S7000 bridge camera (I loved that CCD), which took great images for what it was, and I fell in love with photography again. A few years later upgraded to a nicer Fujifilm, then right after that bought a Sigma DSLR and collection of lenses. Tried my hand at model/portrait work at a hobbyist level. Always had a love/hate relationship with the Sigma. My gear aged, I got married, life got busy, and I fell out of photography again. Now, I am switching brands and starting from scratch again with Pentax.

Still enjoying and getting used to my new K-50. I have done various casual video recordings, and overall have been pleased with the video quality. Focusing is not as easy as I had hoped, but I ...

So long as the customer base of Pentax, it doesn't matter. Sales = growth = new and better Pentax products. Women in their 30s take just as many selfies as the college crowd. The average selfie ...

  • Nice images. The record player is especially cool. I recently picked up a used Sigma 50mm f1.4 that I think I am going to really like, once I get the autofocus tweaked properly. I can send it with ...
  • I got the YN560II in December. I have used it only a little--on camera only--but I was quite pleased with quality/output of this flash. I love the idea of TTL flash, but had mixed results in the ...
  • I'm already kicking myself for not snagging a couple good deals a few weeks ago. Do you think the manual focus K mounts will see the same thing happen too? I started on manual focus back in the day ...
  • Commented on DSC_3878 2 in the Winter magic challenge

Ooooo...this is almost an epic shot.

  • Man, you've got some sweet images in your Flickr photostream. (I'm a KY boy too, btw.) Thanks for sharing.
  • How important is video to you?  The 4k video would be nice, if you plan on leaning to the video side of capture. I just got my K-50 in December, so I won't be body shopping for a bit now, but nice ...
  • Well, I just started price watching mid December, so my exposure to the Pentax mount scene is pretty limited. I did notice a jump in eBay sold prices the past couple weeks compared to the 6-8 ...
  • I feel like megapixel and IQ have turned into the equivalent of horsepower with new cars. Consumers get hung up on a specific measurement and base the superiority (and decision to purchase) on ...
  • K-50, K-S2, K-5ii...just pick one and start enjoying it. From what little you have shared in your other threads about the specific type of photography you do, I doubt the differences in IQ between ...
  • Created discussions Used Lenses Price Jump?
I just joined the Pentax ranks a couple months ago. I have been watching the prices of used fast lenses on eBay since then. Is it just me, or does it seem like the going prices for good, used ...
  • When I ordered my K50, I opted for the green/white color combination.  I'd never buy a camera just because it comes in cool colors, but if I have the option to pick something a little different, ...
  • No, I am after a workable shallow depth of field. I just want what is supposed to be focused to be sharp...within reason. I know f/1.4 has limitations. This lens is praised in reviews, but no ...

Try turning the slave to face the backdrop instead the back of your subject. You also may want to put a white sock or two over it, depending on what kind of light you are using. I have no ...
  • Your whole reply was well stated. In regard to the quote above, couldn't the same be said for choosing a wide open aperture for creamy-blurred surroundings being an attempt to manipulate reality? ...
  • I think the photographer was going after a "painterly" type photo that blurs the line between photo and art print. This and the gritty look are still popular. I know a lot of us when we first get ...
  • I think the shot I linked was f/1.6.  Most of my shots I have done at f/1.8 because I thought that would be a good, workable f-stop that would still produce nice bokeh. I also used to own a 28mm ...
  • Take a look at the linked photo and tell me if you think this is more on as far as accurate focus. HERE This is "maxed-out" at -10 in the fine tune adjustments. Focus is much more accurate with the ...
