About me:

I have a here-and-gone relationship with photography. I got into photography as a teenager. My first SLR was a fully manual Minolta. (Had the needle in the viewfinder.) I had a darkroom set up in my bedroom as a 15 yr old. (Those skills are worth a lot today...lol.) As a teen, I worked for the local newspaper as a sports photographer. I went to college to major in photojournalism but decided to go into education instead. Dropped out of creative photography for awhile. I later got a Fujifilm S7000 bridge camera (I loved that CCD), which took great images for what it was, and I fell in love with photography again. A few years later upgraded to a nicer Fujifilm, then right after that bought a Sigma DSLR and collection of lenses. Tried my hand at model/portrait work at a hobbyist level. Always had a love/hate relationship with the Sigma. My gear aged, I got married, life got busy, and I fell out of photography again. Now, I am switching brands and starting from scratch again with Pentax.

  • Very nice. I like the lighting/shadow

I am putting my Sigma gear up for sale, if anyone is in the market for bits to add to your camera bag.  In addition to an SD14 body, I have five lenses, including a sweet 28mm EX, and a flash. I ...
  • Replied in KS1 Awarded
I think it's a really interesting camera. Had it been closer in price to the K50, I would have strongly considered it. I'd love to see some sample images from some skilled studio photographers to ...
  • That's a lot of gear for under $800. P Great opportunity if you are just starting out. I just got a K50. Indeed, if you want to shoot video, I would say go with another option. But, you said you ...
  • I'm planning to use it mostly for portraits in good light.  Thanks.
  • Created questions K50 and Pre-Flash Question
Sorry for another question. I normally don't use built-in flash a lot, but with the size and weather sealing of the K50, I'm probably going to be packing it along more than I did my old DSLR.  The ...
  • What I wanted to hear.  :-)
  • Thanks for posting.  Def helps in my decision to go with the lens. I actually don't like small, featherweight lenses.  My Sigma 28mm EX prime has a porker, but it performed very well. I think this ...
  • I thought I attempted shutter speeds in the correct range.  Regardless, I swapped in a new battery into the trigger.  The test light worked on it, but the battery had been in a loooong time.  The ...
  • Thanks for the link. I'd love the opportunity to just try a few different primes in-store, but don't think that is an option for me. I was considering this lens because I had really good ...
  • Agreed, but to be fair, I did just some impromptu shooting in the living room. Hoping to shoot in sunshine and indoors with controlled flash tomorrow. Might see more of a difference then.
  • Created discussions Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX Opinions
I just got my new K50 and have had only a little bit of play time with it. None of it outdoors in sunlight or with any studio lighting. So far I like the camera. I don't love it yet, but I suspect ...
  • I'll charge up my old body and double check that the triggers work on it.  I did push the test button on the trigger and it fired the flash, but that doesn't mean they are firing from hotshoe, of ...
  • They are just a couple made-in-China brands.  I'm at work and couldn't tell you names from memory.  The economy ones that just slide into your hotshoe and plug into the strobe. I don't recall what ...
  • Created discussions Remote Strobe Trigger on K50
I got my new K50 and am wanting to do a little test shooting to see if I want to keep it or return. I can't get either of my strobe triggers to work on the K50.  Am I supposed to activate the ...
  • I caught the sarcasm. Was just pointing out the hyperbole. I did some looking-into of the D5200. I didn't see enough difference in overall IQ to choose it, though. DPR samples (Those are JPEGs--I ...
  • So, have you decided what to do yet? I am not new to DSLR, but I am switching brands, which is starting from scratch again.  I was attracted to the K50 because it seems to offer a lot for the ...
  • Well said.  I would think expensive glass on a cheaper body would give you better images than cheap glass on a FF.  Of course, I'm only guessing, as I have never shot FF.  I have shot nice glass ...
  • I don't think the OP spent "thousands of dollars."  I certainly agree with you that people commonly need to research more what they buy before they buy it, but to be fair, there is a limit to what ...
  • Man, the crowd here is pretty irritable. Kind of glad I didn't go Nikon if this is a typical thread... lol. I admit the OP didn't have the smoothest post, but give the guy a break. He was really ...
