Unfortunately, it does look like your M9 has a fault. But - before you assume the worst - try the camera with the SD card removed. If it functions correctly, chances are you have a card problem....

Check to see that you have an SD-HC card in the M9, and NOT an SD-XC type. If your card is an SD-XC, it won't work in the M9 - though the X Vario will be okay.
