Replied in serious problem with Nikon d800 battery
One thing I notice it the batteries self discharge faster in the camera than say the D7000. Still 500 shots is typical for 75% remaining so far.
I find that I take a lot fewer shots and chimp...

Replied in D600 advantages over D800?
No it doesn't. There are reports of some leaving the factory with the left most focus point not as accurate as the rest but I have never seen it and my D800, along with all of those who I know...
-
Replied in Dynamic Range with the D800 - shadows versus highlights in exposures
The OP probably was dealing with a high ISO file where the DR is not going to be as good.....but still better then the D3.
The two cameras in the Nikon line that are essentially ISO'less at 100...

Replied in thanks!
The kids are great, really having fun with dad playing photographer....being a photographer:>)
I was pretty sure the predictions and rumors early on were grumpy old men resisting change which the...

Replied in Quake, tsunami, etc... no excuse
The D7000's probably just needed adjustment or user education.
The D800 is doing very well but a few have the far left focus points set for misaligned software settings in the camera, apparently...

Replied in Here's why I LIKE my D7000, why do you LIKE yours?
Why I like the D7000
ISO 100...more DR and lower noise than any but a D800/e and possibly a D4.
Feel...with the grip, like a slightly smaller lighter D3 that just fits my hand perfectly in either...

Replied in LJK2 has a point
AF and any modern high performance subsystem is often looked at as if it does what the user expects and if not in a particular case, it must be the camera. What is really happening is the concepts...

Replied in Different things matter to different people
Good points. The D800 turned out to be much more versatile than any one predicted before shooting a few thousand shots with it.
I was a little concerned that it would be a bit demanding but it...

Replied in Amazing DP review of Canon Mark 3 and Nikon D800 d800
PC has nothing to do with it.
It is greed, corporations are only concerned with short term profits. Amazon had to boost the ranking of the 5DIII which it can get and lower expectations of the D800...
-
Replied in The 5Diii only has one advantage
The MkIII has some familar "features" that did not get mentioned, it retained the banding and artifacts of the MkII. It also has the ever popular permanent NR that can't be turned off that turns...

Replied in D800 versus 5KMKIII according to DP its a tie
Nowadays all politics is corporate so why not in something so insignificant as a camera review.....corporate profits trump all. If anything the suggestion is that Nikon was significantly better...

Replied in FF D7000 is coming!
Any confidence rating? Sounds like another game changer and smart move, which will sell a ton of glass. Any speculation on frame rate?

Replied in Portrait lens 50mm 1.8g or 85mm 1.8g
Not enough info to make a firm suggestion. What so you call " family portraits", portraits of individual family members or group shots? Head and shoulder or 3/4 or full body images?
How much...

Replied in Lens for portraits
I shoot a lot of events and think a lot depends on the style of shooting, proximity to the group, lighting etc, more than focal length as a general rule.
If going to a gig and wanting portraits,...

Replied in D7000 or D300s?
A used D700 is indeed a bargain right now when they are being sold to finance D800's but the cheapest part of owning a Fx camera is the body. If budget is constrained, Fx can be enough to bust it...

Replied in D4/ D800(E) - Left AF Problem
Every time a new camera comes out techs and service centers need to be certified and trained on the alignment procedures. that it pretty normal for all fields of service.
But only on DPR, troll...
-
Replied in Good reason for crop-ability...
Yes, the cropping ability has saved me a lot in not needing a 300 2.8 to get the same field of view I am used to with my 70-200 at the long end.
Where in the foothills? I used to have a Quarter...

Replied in Oh no...
Mine took 3 days from Best Buy and is perfect, as are most D800's. Price $2999.00 plus CA sales tax. Also picked up a 24-70 to replace my 17-55 2.8. Love the camera, very easy to get great...

Replied in Sometimes it feels like we're nearing the end of the road
In some markets the Canon products are a lot cheaper than Nikon in the same class so you see more of them. Here is Russia a D7000 is about the same or more than a 7d but regardless of price, the...

Replied in Michel, that's a bit playing on semantics
There is sure proof that the whinny crowd is not serious about getting it taken care of if theirs actually needs calibration because they spend weeks on this forum venting and never do anything...
