at f2.8 you are just widening the depth of field putting the target within focus.The strange is it does it with 50 f/1.8g and 24-70 but is in perfect focus with 105vr and 70-200. All wide open

if the subject with left AF point is in focus at f2.8 and is blurry at f1.8 with the same lens, what does it tell you? thanks

Well, i updated the firmware and reset the camera. Now images look right.

This is very strange but nothing changes if i drop the shutter speed to 1/25th from 1/200th

No, its only underexposing with strobes. Ambient with camera meeter works fine

im looking on the computer and checked my setting many times. Im using 50mm f/1.8g lens and also tried it with 105vr. i will keep everyone posted as i do more testing.

Active D-Lighting is OFF. BTW, worked fine with D7000 as well. My D800 is a week old. Went to the dealer i bought it from today and we tested it with their strobe and it looked underexposed to me...
