About me:

I began my journey into photography when I took an old film camera on a backpacking trip into the Grand Canyon. When I came out I knew that something about taking pictures of places I had been, and sharing them with others who may have not seen that place was a truly special experience. Years later when I went to South East Asia on a one way ticket I knew it was time to fully dive in. I now make it my goal to venture to the unknown places near and far and share them with others.

  • Its funny how everyone thinks of Arizona as dry and always hot but Flagstaff can definitely be cold, even in the summer. Those shots are really well done, especially the LMC by itself. Truly ...
  • Thanks Chrisma, Thats interesting you've had trouble stitching shots from that lens. Did you enable lens correction for it before stitching? This one? Thats about the only thing I can think of that ...
  • Steve, Thank you! What time of year were you in South Africa? Summer? Yes the Magellanic Clouds are a sight to see for those of us from the northern hemisphere. Did you have a telescope to look ...
  • I'd go with the Samyang 14mm f2.8. Its a phenomenal lens with awesome sharpness. You'll also be able to use it if/when you upgrade to full frame. It'll act very wide on your 700D and even wider on ...
  • These are my two first decent shots while using the incredible Samyang f2.8 14mm UMC ultra wide lens. I picked it up in Auckland and while traveling down the country of New Zealand I have been ...

I think you will be very happy with it. I'm curious as to if your copy has a slightly less sharp right side. (mine does) I have only ran into a few people who have this lens with a razor sharp ...
  • Russ, Thank you for the kind comments and heap of information. I have a star app on my phone but it rarely seems to work so I really appreciate you going through the information. I didn't think I ...
  • This is a shot of the center of the milky way I took just a few nights ago at Blue Duck Station, New Zealand. I know the constellation Scorpio is in it but I was wondering if some of you could ...

  • I was hoping a couple of you would be able to take a few minutes and look over my website. I just finished the reorganization and redesign and what I want to know is how intuitive is it to get ...
  • First off, I think its a great shot. I wrestle with the same question sometimes. To argue about what is 'acceptable sharpness' look at Steve McCurry's work. Many of his images are far from tack ...
  • Submitted a challenge entry Big Buddha Phuket
A 45 meter high statue made mostly of marble. Its official name is Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha, but Big Buddha is easier to say.

  • I almost never get motion sick but I couldn't do more than about 25 seconds.

  • I agree with Skipper494 the background is pretty distracting. Maybe to minimize the background you could try a slight vignette to draw your eye down and keep it on the ducks. Or get a longer lens! :)
  • Excellent work Harald. Your new site loads very quickly and has a great clean look to it. I'm viewing it on an 11'' Macbook Air using Chrome. The only thing I might recommend looking into (it could ...
  • I take a Sigma 50mm f1.4 and a Canon 40mm Pancake f2.8 with my 6D for street shooting. The 50 is amazing for portraits and so very sharp wide open but the 40mm is less than half an inch thick. For ...
