Look's like a hammer .... Thor's hammer ... maybe I'll be able to take superb pictures with it ... and then chop a piece of wood with it's other hammer end ... and fashion out a wooden grip for it quickly ... before the hassie gets to it ... :D

I guess dpr follows the dictum "quality first and then quantity"

Nuno Souto: Why dream? Just get a F6 - it's here now, it's the best film camera EVER made bar none, and it is not that expensive second hand through epay.
Alternatively, just forget all that Nikon crap and get a Oly OMD: it's got all the retro that you need and none of that silly mirror-up slap both Canon and Nikon insist on living with in this day and age of all digital viewfinders - a MUCH better solution!

the best mechanical camera ever made is a nikon fm3a ... nikon sp comes a close second ... mainly because i own an fm3a and don't own an sp yet .... :D ... seriously spking though ... i had always wanted something like this. i wondered if there was a way to convert my fm3a to digital. nikon sp is a wonderful camera to own ... somehow i feel rather than release expensive and useless collector editions of nikon sp ... nikon must work to release a full frame digital and an affordable version of this beautiful rangefinder. it's simply unacceptable that leica doesn't have any competition ....

sanchil: i would think getting rid of the flapping mirror and creating an interchangeable lens camera was a far better innovation in fotography in the recent times ... oly and panny have really done a good job in creating a new category in cameras ...

yea right ... sorry i didn't chk ... thnx for the correction ...somehow i presumed it was for the decade ... great inventions usually don't happen every year ....

mayb if they are able to record the photons without the use of lenses ... mayb if they are able to use multiple tiny lenses and multiple sensors and then extrapolate the image ... well u could create superb high dynamic range images with that technique ... i think they use that in astronomy to reduce the size of the mirrors though i'm not too sure .... well mayb one day we may have better instruments that warrant the invention title ... i'm sure ....

The RX100 is the iPhone of compact cameras.

hmmm .... iPhone is it .... then tis even more scarier than i thought ... ;p

i would luv to see a shoot out comparision between the sony rx-100, oly xz2, pan lx-7, fuji xf1 and nokia pureview 808. i wanna know which one of these is the best pocketable camera with great iq of course. i willing to lay my bets on the nokia pureview 808 actually ... :)

marike6: I'd put the Nokia PureView 808 ahead of the RX100 as "best invention". The PureView technology will revolutionize the mobile camera space potentially impacting far more people.

The "best invention" of the RX100 by Time is more of marketing stunt than reality. The RX100 is not the first large sensor in a small camera.

ur spot on marike ... in fact the new panasonic lx 7 and the oly xz2 probably match up the image quality of rx100 even in low light ... as per dpreview's own admission the f1.8 of rx100 is unusable in bright light. between these cameras lx7, xz2 and rx 100 ... i would prefer either lx7 or xz2 over rx 100...and in all likely hood the image qualities between these cams may not differ much. but if i have to buy ... i would luv to go for the nokia pureview 808. it is a far better innovation than the rx 100. it may be a bit short on high end part of the dynamic range ... but it is pocketable. its quite simply .. the best pocketable camera ever made. it has a 1.7 sensor inside which is the same as lx7 or xz2.
