PowerG9atBlackForest: Hey boys, I am an amateur having joined dpreview in 2008 and now shooting with Olympus MFT cameras. I could not resist having a curious side-look at your new Nikon D5 as it popped up here. You are not serious, are you? This is what they build our brick houses from at home ;-)

Seems so! That's how a solid cam should be! The smaller cams i allways swallow by chance so i stoped using small sony or olympus toys!

Neodp: Yeah yeah. You're a Market segment. Makes you feel warm inside don't it.

Another view is Nikon should take all the good photographic things about their high end cameras and put them COMPREHENSIVELY into a body of their smallest size; but trimmed a bit more there too.

Why not have NIKON DSLR and APS-C mirror-less too? Both need many improvements!

It's time to quit playing around.

1. This does not mean huge camera lovers can't have theirs too. Good luck carrying it and a few lenses.

2. This hamstrung limited low end market segment spit has got to stop. Those of you thinking this gets you a better deal are just wrong.

3. Prices are out of whack and I mean the LOWEST ones (you can find) included.

4. We have STOPPED even bettering SOME benefits we had with film. Not that film is overall better comprehensively. Like HIGHLIGHT range specifically. Color sensitivity. Then there's just the total benefits combo balance. They all work together you know.

mirrorless is a different segment, so im more then glad to not have to work with mirrorless cameras !

art99: How about making it FF mirrorless with super super low light sensitivity and accepting all present Nikon lenses with full functionality. ?

its very speedy yes, but its a very smal sensor in the Nikon 1 J5! With a FF Sensor it seems to be quiet a bit more difficult !

I had the opportunity to shoot for an hour with it. At the first feel there was nothing wrong with it. All pictures was very clear and sharp. Shot a f number serie from 2.8 to 16 from a simply street with and without VR.
The only thing i can imagine is the still missing in camera profil (distortion control) and LR Profil.
Also shoot the new 24 f1.8 and the new 200-500 at this da. I realy was suprised how good the VR was with the 200-500.
Compared to the new 24-70 the new fixed 24 f1.8 showed less distortion uncorrected as expected.
By the way the new 300 f4.0 PE VR seems to be already in the stores. I shoot one 2 weeks ago.

Another try to shrink puplic freedom!
Another try to make money from nothing.
They didn't asked the to put a building into our view, who is paying us for a limited view? If they put a building in front of my face who is paying me that for? What's next ? Copyright for trees, mountains, flowers ? All of this just to feed the rich who can't get enough!
Wikipedia has done the pictures long before they decided to ask money for there f*****g building so it should stay there for free. I also don't ask money for thing i gave away for years for free.

Great Job Mr. Lik
Gratulation. I like it very much that photographic works can get such good prices. It is important to all of us who sell photographs. Of course if you buy a Lik Print you pay also for the name. And if someone is complainig about bad payed prints, then get a name to get better and higher priced prints sold. Thumbs up Mr. Lik.

I like big cards as i always used them.
For important sessions I'm always shooting into 2 cards (Nikon) for higher security even i never had any problems. But one day i lost some sessions on my pc by accident. But happily i still had them on my card to bring it back. My opinion, as long it is affordable it can't be big enough.

they all work with the same aged sensor technology, so choose by design becouse the Iq is more or less the same! I wonder there is no sigma quadro in that list!

i wonder why they make the sample shoots with all this zooms and not with a good prime ! I got my D810 on the first day it was released, just can tell you the samples here showed on DP are not the max you can get out of this camera !

Guenter Hofstaedter: I own the D810, but to be honest, the sensor technology is at a point where no significant improvments can be done ! yes, the D810 is a good camera, but the sensor technology is old chesse. have you ever seen stills from a Sigma Merill 2 or 3 ? ( not perfect for all, but in native Iso the details and colors are shocking ( especialy for pround 36mp camera users)

its better then medium format marc, just imagine that quality with 60 mp instead of 16 on a big sensor !
i bought the d810 to work with, but i don´t see any reason to buy another update in maybe 16 Month if the sensor technology doesnt change. So probably i will stay for next 15 Years with my D4s and D810 or any other company get the jump for better sensors! The Merril it self is a fun camera, but unfortunately not to work with !
