Boris: What was Sigma thinking?...none of my pockets are that big.

My APSC Ricoh GR fits in any of my pockets and my DP2M fits in about 1/3 of my pockets...this DP2 won`t fit in any.

On Just posted: Nikon D5200 in-depth review article (233 comments in total)
In reply to:

sadwitch: I briefly had a D5100 and got interested by the comments here and decided check out using the DP image comparison tool. Indeed, it seems soft in comparison to most camera eg K30, XE-1, Nex 7 and even the E-M5.

The K30 is holds up (beats both D7100 and D5100) really well and even the E-M5 clearly looks sharper in comparison for both jpeg and RAW up to iso3200. I think what fails it may just be the 50mm F1.4 lens.

I wonder what will it look like using a dedicated macro lens like the 40 f2.8 or sigmas 105mm f2.8?

Interestingly, NEX 7 seems to stand out especially in the RAW department. It may just be the king of APS-C in terms of resolution and IQ

I own the D5100,Nex7, Pentax K5 and the EM5. The D5100 bests these other cameras in C-AF/focus tracking....it works!

On Roger Cicala compares Zeiss and Canon 135mm f/2 lenses article (87 comments in total)
In reply to:

jhinkey: Sigma is rumored to have the 135/1.8 sometime this year AND Nikon has a patent on a 135/1.8 IF AFS VR and likely will come out with this lens in order to compete. So it's good that we'll all have some choices in the fast 135/2 department somewhat soon.

The Zeiss 135/2 certainly looks outstanding and the lack of AF does not bother me for what I do - outstanding wide open performance across the entire frame is what I like to see (just like the 100/2 MP).

I own both the Canon 135f2 and Nikon 135f2DC for many years. the Canon is sharper wide open with good contrast while the Nikkor is sort of dreamy wide open with lower contrast which is appealing for boutique type head shots....Canon is quicker to AF by far.

In reply to:

marike6: I get that this is a comparison test, but I prefer the review tests done by Lenstip and Photozone. CA, distortion, resolution, coma and astigmatism, vignetting, bokeh, flare control, are all important if you want to know how a lens performs.

Posting resolution numbers and calling it a day is great for stimulating lively discussions about the sharpness of a lens or two, but there much more to know about a modern optic than line pairs / image height.

Not true that the Canon has low contrast at f2!
