To check the aperture: just look into the lens from the front, you will see 7 blades that form a small circle. These should be clean (no oil on it). Also check from the back of the lens.

I tried them all, plus Photivo, darktable, etc. I used Aftershot Pro for a long time but it doesn't support the A99. Now I use Photo Ninja. Quality wise, it is unmatched.
