Trying to get bettter.
I liked this, but it could have been great with a faster shutter speed, IMO.
dibilio57: Wow - how was this capture achieved at 1/4 sec? Hopefully the author will share his technique.
And how many attempts it took!
I thought this was pretty darn good, I guess the voters didn't understand the concept of the title any better than....
Looking at your examples, can I assume you want electrical pylons and not other forms of support such as bridge supports, etc... ?
You must have been on the North Shore, I was up there that whole week and every moment was a "Kodak Moment". We may have even met.
This was my favorite.
gfa5775: Oh, and then there are the clueless that don't read that will just hose it up anyway.
I'm not so sure it's the system as much as the people entering. It's the same human flaws like greed, that screw up everything, some will always find a way.
Maybe if you could come up with a formula that would add a higher weight for more votes and a much lower weight if a photo only had a couple 5's.
Of course this would only work if everybody voted, which is part of the problem.
Oh, and then there are the clueless that don't read that will just hose it up anyway.
Good intentions but.... what I see appears that the biggest sandbaggers also have friends or family that log in and vote their photo a 5 star even though it's poor quality or off-topic. This equation will look like - (0 votes from honest voters) + ( a # of 5 votes from friends) divided by (# of 5 votes) = 5 Star rating. The bottom feeder WINS!
Your concept/system defeats a measure of checks & balances the low to high voting system has to minimize the "Sandbag Effect" and encourages a - You kiss my a-s, I'll kiss yours' - that I've seen on other sites. This might not be perfect, but it's better than the alternative. Sandbaggers will always find a way.
I don't know what's more impressive, the photo or that you can draw this just visualizing what you've done.
Very nice, the craftmanship and colors plus the tool and old wood add to it. Wish you would have filled the frame and cut out some of the black space so the detail would be more visable. Would have gone all the way to a 5. Good luck.
Help me understand your last statement. What purpose does this serve and by what guidelines do you classify therse posters as pretentious?
What do you consider "Long"? Is there a minimum time like 1, 4 or more seconds?
Excellent instructions and example, it'd be hard to mess up an entry if they're read.
1 Second - Are you refering to exposure time? Thanks
With all do respect, maybe you should supply an example of a "Silhouette". Your challenge is filling up with 0.5 entries. You come up with some nice challenges, it's really kind of sad.
Maybe the confussion is the difference between telephoto & zooms. All zooms are telephoto, but prime telephotos, (of course), are not zooms. Does our host actually mean a F2.8 or F2.0 Telephoto Lens?
To Kristy63 - Try this link to flickr - it gives examples and a brief explaination.http://www.flickr.com/photos/differentview/3767022167/in/photostream/
Rules - smules, Rex isn't centered either, this is a great shot. You can even feel the counter lean in the canoe.
Question - Are you allowed to shoot in RAW & convert to jpeg, or do you need to shoot jpeg only?
