Review of: Sigma SD14

Opinion: As an SD10 user, I was at first a little frustrated with this camera, as it more finicky than the SD10; but once I got to know how to treat it to get the best images, I was quite blown away by its potential. The image quality (IQ) is simply spectacular! Images look 3D-isch, not flat. Most film-like DSLR around, I believe.

You need to learn what white balance works best, as the camera is a bit finicky in this area (is also a software image processing issue). I should have it mastered soon.

It's not a camera you just point and shoot with; you have to think, be smart, and draw out its RAW power (play on words, as shooting RAW is the only way to go).

Feel free to view my images on pbase (janus) and see for yourself.

Problems: 1. SPP (image processing software) needs to be improved, draw out better blues.

2. Battery life not spectacular, but not too bad either.

3. Camera should not work with no CF card in it (only small message appears; this was better on SD10); should be fixable with firmware.

4. AE lock should be implemented better, but is workable. I like to see a switch as on the Contax G1 / G2.

5. Custom White Balance should be implemented as a button on the camera.
