On Best Camera of 2012: And the Winner is... article (1412 comments in total)

Bias in sampling is always an issue. Did Olympus owners (or fans) vote more than others? However, the larger the sample, the less bias. 15,000 votes is a pretty big sample.

On Static Wheel in the Portrait of a Bicycle challenge (20 comments in total)

Would a challenge entitled 'portrait of a person' necessitate a photo of the entire body? Even the entire face?

One of the points of these contests is to challenge photographers to come up with new and arresting images.

I would think that a photo of an eagle's claw could satisfy a recent challenge calling for pictures of eagles. (Whether it would be a _good_ photo would depend.)

On red square in the Civic Christmas challenge (4 comments in total)

Perhaps I should have named the challenge "Lights, Evergreen Trees, and Effigies of Fat Men in Red Suits, in Public Places During the Weeks Preceding December 25th" ;)

On red square in the Civic Christmas challenge (4 comments in total)

AKozick made this complaint about an entry in the Challenge 'Civic Christmas':

>I am sorry but this is totally out of place. Christmas doesn't celebrates on Eastern Orthodox territories. New Year YES! but not Civic Christmas!!!(Technically New Year wasn't in Challenge description!!!) Simple Civic Christmas doesn't exist for Russians. They celebrate Birthday of Jesus Jan 7. But it is pure religion event. Please be kind to folks who have different customs. Would you say Merry Cristmas to Muslims, Hindu etc.? Do you?<

The entry he writes about is 'red square' - which makes his complaint self-refuting, since there they are, Christmas decorations in the eastern orthodox territory of Russia. Obviously not all places celebrate Christmas, and yet this challenge has received entries from St. Petersburg Russia (two entries!), Brunei, Singapore, Dubai City, Turkey, and Tel Aviv.

Not everyone in the world has the opportunity to participate in every challenge - e.g. folks in the topics are at a disadvantage with regard to challenges that require snow. So what? There are lots of challenges, and opportunities for people to become challenge hosts.

On Foggy Sunrise at Twenty-Mile River in the The nimble and nifty Nikon D40 challenge (6 comments in total)

The only EXIF data I was interested in was the camera make, and that's there.

If you wanted to complain, why did you wait until the voting was over?

Really good shot that truly is a compressed grouping. Should have been first IMHO. (The first place winner's entry does not even look like a photo.)
