The D70s is a fantastic all round camera.
The D70s with the 50mm F1.8 AF is an absolute match made in heaven.
Since you currently own both, I'd say the best thing to do is shoot with both of them...

Just google 'shutter count online' and should find at least a couple websites that will allow you to upload a NEF or jpg file. If you upload a jpg file, it's best if it is straight from the camera...

My *D40* has over 40,000 shots and no issues.
My D200 has about the same. No issues at all.
