Replied in Why D800 is really BAD
The D800 is a very dangerous camera because my sonny does video, and he's very interested in my interest in the camera. I suspect he's haking my computer to see if I have placed a preorder. I'm...

Commented on Sony promises more NEX lenses in updated E-mount lens roadmap news story
I would not be so sure that Nex mount is compatible with full frame, in mount size and flange distance respects. I think it would require lenses design so telecentric that even a supposed pancake...

Commented on Sony promises more NEX lenses in updated E-mount lens roadmap news story
Sorry, Angenieux has been out of business for many years, and Cooke is specialized in cine lenses, which have different characters, needs and design priorities than photo lenses. Sony could...

Replied in Why does the D800 cost so much?
As soon as the D800 is delivered, a good lot of used D700s will be on the market. Go and buy one. It's still a very capable camera, and will be for a long time.
We have seen how a full frame...

Replied in D800 lenses
Most Carl Zeiss wides will be ok. All Nikon and Zeiss macros. The good old 80-200 2.8, if not abused. My 28mm/2,8 Ais, 105/2,5 Ai and 180/2,8 Ai, at least I hope. Plus, of course, the 2.8 zooms...

Replied in It could be a bargain…
…if the sensor does what is promised, and the lenses are good and dostortion free. Or it could be a steal if the promises are not fullfilled. We can't do anything but wait.

Replied in What will happen if X-Pro shows better high iso than FF?
I understand. Must be hard work. In my latitudes people care less about atmosphere, luckily. But I agree that in the situations you described anything but the best Nikon autofocus, or a well tuned...

Replied in What will happen if X-Pro shows better high iso than FF?
For all my life I have focused, framed, shot. The same with autofocus: focus, frame, shot. Most subjects let you work this way, apart from athlets in sports competitions and birds inflight. The...

Replied in I think what will happen is

Not if they keep producing a single iterated camera, the DSLR. An ideal instrument for some kinds of photography, a less than ideal for others. The illusion of a single solution for...

Replied in What will happen if X-Pro shows better high iso than FF?
I'm a Nikon owner, and I'm simply tired of going around with a camera and lenses that weight as much as a Hasselblad outfit in film days. So yes, I will turn to Fuji for a few reasons:
1. the...

Replied in XPro1 System Compared to DSLR systems and Practical Uses
I plan to use the x-pro1 for travel, obviously. I hope the 14mm will come soon, because in some interiors it's the right focal length. Then I will use the camera for concerts, obviously not with...

Replied in Torn Between X Pro 1 and Full Frame
Damn, I was hoping to finance the x-Pro1 selling a bit of DSLR gear.

Replied in Torn Between X Pro 1 and Full Frame
I think the equivalence problem is over hyped. Different cameras bring in different results, and you will never obtain big format look with 35mm, or full frame look with a small small format...

Replied in Thinking the unthinkable
Here in Italy there is much talk about a ship commander who steered his huge ship into the rocks, with sad loss of lives. In the last ten years I have had the impression that Kodak was guided by...

Replied in fuji x-pro 1 samples iso 25600
Astonishing. Looks like my Nikon D300 @ISO 3200, or the Leica M9 sensor @1600. Fuji will re-write the rules.

Replied in X Pro 1 - Good value for money !
Size and weight are just a part of the story. Anyhow they mean a more relaxed, less intrusive way of working. I have never liked cameras, lenses, big bag, flash or flashes shouting “I'm a pro!“ at...

Replied in X100 great in post processing
May I suggest that your screen is not properly profiled.

Replied in High ISO / X-Pro1
The samples provided by Fuji seem to be unsharpened. if you shift-refresh the page, you will find many more samples. I downloaded a couple of images, and they took a huge amount of sharpening...

Replied in Fuji site awash with new samples....
The couple of images I downloaded take a real looot of sharpening (different sharpenings too) without showing embarassment or artifacts. We'll have to tune in a different way our workflows, I suppose.

Replied in AF on the X Pro 1
Physical dimensions have an influence on focussing speed. Focussing a small lens with a tiny movement from near range to ∞ is faster and less energy demanding than focussing a bigger lens...
