Does not appear to be camera shake because the bird is in focus. Bokeh depends on depth of field (f stop) but also on how far away the background is from the object in focusFurther away background...

Good photos are all about subject matter, composition, lighting, technique and less about the camera. Some people have to upgrade every year, but the D5000 is still one good camera.

The Kenko 2.0 is inferior to the Kenko 1.4TC. You loose two stops with the 2.0 and auto focus is not always certain even under good lighting conditionsI think you have a lens compatabilty problem...

Forget the 2.0...I have the 2.0 and 1.4, and the Kenko 1.4 gives much better image quality than the Kenko 2.0

Seems like the logical thing to do is to shoot many images at various focal lengths and shutter speeds and compare the results yourself, since you are the one who has to be satisfied.
