- Ensure you're a registered user and that you're logged in.
- Copy the 'Email' value from the edit profile page (NOT the 'Reg. email' value).
-
Go the Gravatar signup page and paste the email you copied from
your dpreview profile. It's important that they match.
-
Gravatar will then send a verification email to the specified address (to check that it's actually yours). It should appear
in your inbox within a few minutes (unless it's caught by an over-eager spam filter).
Once you receive your confirmation email, click the long verification link within it and you'll be taken back to Gravatar
to complete the signup process. You'll be asked to specify a nickname (if you choose to use this avatar on other sites)
and a password.
-
The signup process is complete and you'll be whisked away to the email management interface
(Gravatar allows multiple emails to be attached to your account). Now you're ready to set your avatar image. Click the
Add one by clicking here! link and follow the steps to add an image
(from hard-drive, web-cam or URL). We recommend that your avatar be 80x80 pixels for optimal display on dpreview.
-
Once you've uploaded and cropped an avatar image to your satisfaction, Gravatar will ask you to give the avatar image
a rating (similar to a censor's rating for a movie). dpreview will
only display avatars that have a rating of G or PG.
-
Your Gravatar is now ready to go.
Within 5 or 10 minutes your Gravatar should appear on your dpreview profile page and
in the header block of all your forum posts.
Troubleshooting
If your avatar isn't displaying correctly on dpreview we need to check whether the Gravatar has been setup correctly.
The most helpful tool in this regard is the Gravatar check page. Go to
this page, enter your email and Gravatar will tell you whether a Gravatar is correctly configured for that email.
If your avatar displays correctly in the PG slot on the Gravatar check page but does not appear on your Profile page, please contact us via the feedback channel
If your avatar does NOT display correctly on the Gravatar check page, try the following
- Ensure you've verified your email address and uploaded an avatar image
- Ensure you've registered the same email address with Gravatar as you see listed in the 'Email' field on your edit profile page
- Ensure your avatar is rated G or PG (we do not display X or R rated avatars)
- If you have multiple email addresses associated with your Gravatar account (rare, optional) then make sure that each image has an associated image (not just the default blue/white image)
- Make sure you wait 5 to 10 minutes after set your avatar before you begin to worry
- Clear your cache (ctrl+F5 on windows)
Multiple emails and Gravatar (optional)
You may wish to associate multiple email addresses with your Gravatar account (you may belong to multiple online communities that use the Gravatar service). To add another email address to your Gravatar account:
- Ensure you're logged into Gravatar.
- In the Gravatar management UI, click the add a new email link.
- Enter an email, check your inbox (for the added email address) for the verification email then click the long verification link within it.
- NOTE: your second email address will not automatically be associated with existing avatar images (you may want different images per email). You will need to select your second email address and explicitly associate it with your existing (or a new) avatar image.
