Setting star
Setting star
Taken on: Nov 20, 2012
This is a shot of the same spot at Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park as the previous one posted a few days ago, except that the sun is framed to shine through the haystack. I have tried to get starburst shots of the rising/setting sun with the EF-S 10-22 a few times, never satisfied. For one thing, there are flares all over. I had to get rid of many here. Secondly, the effect is not as crisp as I would like. I don't know if a hood would have helped, but I would have expected better flare resistance from this lens. I have seen people create fake starbursts with filters, but that's not my cup of tea. This is my best effort so far. I have a few more that I'll work on later. Part of Filby broad. The Broads are a network of mostly navigable rivers and lakes in the English counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. For many years the broads were regarded as natural features of the landscape. It was only in the 1960s that Dr Joyce Lambert proved that they were artificial features, the effect of flooding on Mediaeval peat excavations.[3] The Romans first exploited the rich peat beds of the area for fuel, and in the Middle Ages the local monasteries began to excavate the peat lands as a turbary business, selling fuel to Norwich and Great Yarmouth. The Cathedral took 320,000 tonnes of peat a year. Then the sea levels began to rise, and the pits began to flood. Despite the construction of windpumps and dykes, the flooding continued and resulted in the typical Broads landscape of today, with its reed beds, grazing marshes and wet woodland.
