The Red Cliffs Preserve in Southern Utah
One day a winter storm was clearing on the Colorado Plateau where I was camping in Utah. I had packed the night before prepared to head to Zion National Park for a majestic sunrise on the West Temple. On the way there I witnessed the most spectacular clouds I had ever seen on Pine Valley Mountain in the Red Cliffs Preserve. Turning around and rushing back to the mountain, my heart pounded as I began to visualize the image of a dramatic sunrise on the mountain. Literally running with my gear from the area where I could park to the area I had scouted many years before—the scene unfolded right in front of me. It was unquestionably a panoramic image. As I planted my camera and watched the sunrise—it was the most spectacular sunrise I had ever witnessed unfold before my eyes. The mountains seemed like a steam locomotive with clouds billowing behind it creating a beautiful variety of colors in the early morning sky.
