Tucked away at the southern end of the Gulf Island chain of British Columbia, Saturna Island is easily the least spoiled of the Gulf Islands. This remote and sparsely populated mountainous island, about 31 km² in size with bountiful wildlife and pristine natural beauty is surrounded on three sides by the Canada/USA border. Home to First Nations peoples for thousands of years, Saturna was explored by Spanish sailors and named in 1791 after their naval schooner, the Santa Saturnina, one of the ships in the Spanish expedition that discovered the Strait of Georgia.
