Portraits From the Holy Land: Ultra Orthodox Jew in Mea Shearim
Mea Shearim is a neighborhood in Jerusalem. It is another world altogether, where the Chassidic sects of Judaism predominate. It is a fascinating place. The Chassidim generally don't like to have their picture taken and will look away, particularly the women and children. If one tries photographing them on a Saturday, they will get quite upset. I tried to be as unobtrusive as possible, and most of my images show them distracted or looking some other way.
