Located at Gateshead, Tyne and Weir, England, this steel structure of an angel stands 20 metres tall and a wing span of 54 metres almost the same as a Jumbo jet. Constructed in Hartlepool, Cleveland, England,it weighs in at 200 tonnes. The body is 100 tonnes and the wings 50 tonnes each. It is believed to be the largest steel structure of an angel in the world and viewed by 90,000 people each day from the A1 Motorway that passes along side of it. Built to withstand 100mph winds, 600 tonnes of concrete was used to create the foundations. Designed by Antony Gormley and constructed by Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd using Corten weather resistant steel, said to last 100 years. Work began in 1994 and was finished in Feb 1998 at the cost of one million pounds
