Note: A few of these have some motion blur. A horse, even a really good one, is no substitute for a tripod! Palo Duro Canyon, about 15 miles south of my home, is the second biggest canyon in the U.S. The Canyon is 120 miles long, as much as 20 miles wide, and has a maximum depth of more than 800 feet. Its elevation at the rim is 3,500 feet above sea level. (The Grand Canyon, is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and 6,000 ft. deep.) The park has 29,182 acres of the scenic, northernmost portion of the canyon; the remaining 2/3 is privately owned and many ranchers still winter their cattle at the bottom. It is not unusual to find arrowheads and other flint implements left from Indians who wintered in the canyon. It has trails for hiking, biking, running and horseback riding, picnic areas and overnight camping.
