G7: Is that a new version of the 14-140mm lens?
4

Hi All

Looking at this pic...

G7 + 14-140mm 'kit' lens

The "14-140" lettering on the lens body is white rather than gold and the "HD" logo has gone too.

I wonder if this is purely cosmetic? (says he who likes the optical quality of this lens but believe it's flawed as it's very prone to shutter shock with certain bodies).

Re: G7: Is that a new version of the 14-140mm lens?

Very good catch! It definitely is different from a cosmetic standpoint (as is the 14-42 II lens seen in the press shots as well. It has a matte finish, rather than the glossy metallic look of the original).

As for whether it's simply an aesthetic change or something more, I don't know. I do hope that they've addressed the OIS issue though. They've made FW updates to the 12-35 and 35-100 to help address this issue, but nothing for the 14-140 II. Maybe this new lens will be better than the previous version?

It may be cosmetic. All these companies use a software to simulate the images and most of the times it is not a real photograph. WWW.rttusa.com

Specs would indicate that it is the new version.

So, in the new 14-149 MK3, the shutter shake issue (real or imagined) has been fixed?

An EFC would address SS issues just fine without another lens rev. No clue if they've included that on the G7 tho, hopefully.

What specs are those LMNCT? I didn't see any info about it, although the exterior is definitely different (matte finish, white lettering). I'm hoping it is an updated version, but they did the same thing with the 20mm f/1.7 & 14mm f/2.5, where it's the same optical formula with a different appearance.

He might've meant it's simply the newer version, i.e. the smaller/lighter f3.5-5.6 rather than the older f4-5.6 that was much larger and had some zoom creep. The 14-140 f3.5-5.6 isn't even two years old yet tho (tho it was announced just over two years ago), seems kinda soon for anything but a slight cosmetic touch up. Shoot, just over a year ago (Feb-March 2014) they were still struggling to keep it in stock stateside.

Very true, but it's been known for a while the associated issues with Power OIS regarding video stabilization. I'm wondering if the new lens has a different firmware on it that hopefully corrects this problem, or if is simply a cosmetic refresh.

Got my information from the B&H listings.  The 14-140 listed is the newer 3.5 - rather than the older 4 -.

Seems logical to remove a "HD" logo from a lens that's sold with a "4K" camera?

Purely cosmetic (according to 43rumors).

The lettering is now white and the HD sign is removed, presumably because a lens that is marketed as for HD is out of place on a 4K recording camera.

I'm just relaying that message. I have no other knowledge.

Maybe cosmetics but I hope that Panasonic will do OIS fix when many new people get their disappointment with 4k video and that lens.

Can't label a 4k capable camera with HD just bad planning from Panasonic.
They scrubbed it of all the new lenses manufactured.
