Plant eating creature

Haven't been able to figure out what's been killing my plants until this morning. The Lophocampa Caryae, otherwise known as the stinging caterpillar.  I didn't kill him but moved him to a different part of a neighbors yard where there are no flowers or trees.

It was very hard to get a shot off since it was extremely windy, and this oldOLD woman forgot to put up her flash.  Anyway, except for the last one which was just shot with the 45/200, all were shot with the 45/200 lens with the Raynox 150 attached.

And as always, best view in original.

Thanks for looking and commenting, Carol!  I was able to get him to crawl onto a stick then flicked him off when I was ready.  I did have notions of picking him up but I'm not familiar with caterpillers, and plants for that matter, so I didn't.

About the plant.....  I happened to see a weed about 2' high in my flower garden and decided to pull it out.  It was a stinging nettles, and let me tell you I have been in pain all day.  I'm not touching anything anymore without gloves.

Oh yes! Those stinging nettles are wicked indeed! From what I've heard so is this stinging caterpiller!

Really nice shots, Karen!

Number 2 and 3 are my favorite.

I had a similar setup, few years ago.

I had a GH2 , along with the 45 to 200mm ,and I did try it with the same Raynox 150....but didn't have anything worthy of showing.

You did much better,

hope your hand heals fast!

Karen,

Cute photos of a fuzzy caterpillar.  You are so kind hearted not to have squashed it.

Great photos Karen. You did a nice job with the compositions with lots of fine details to enjoy. I like #3 the best too. Yes, keep those gloves handy.

Fabulous shots,Karen ! You must be free of caffeine to get such clarity with no tripod

Another reminder of how much there is to learn about what is going on out there in the garden. Very enjoyable set.

I wonder if it will turn into a moth or a butterfly, I prefer not to use flash but sometimes one has to, well spotted karen.

Nice series, Karen.. sorry to hear about your unpleasant "close encounter" with the creature, .. lovely composed shots, excellent detail and textures - my favorite is the first picture for vivid colors.. well spotted and presented, .. thank you for sharing.

Stay well,

Thanks Vickie, I finally got a creature to get a picture of.  I won't make the same mistake again with the stinging nettles.

Thanks for looking, David.  Yeah, I did want to kill him, but since he sat still for me I didn't have the heart to do it.

Thanks Yuki, I appreciate your kind words!!  I had actually had several cups by then.   Actually I kinda got lucky, I threw a few away, but for the most part I had keepers.  I think if I would have had the flash up (I don't use a diffuser, but the flash is down very low) I would have taken more; I was having trouble getting focus and higher shutter speeds.  Light was difficult.

Excellent set Karen. I like the first one best because of the color. You call yourself OLD but your photo looks like a woman of about 30.
