A sassy Studebaker, and a comparison. 9 pics, FZ200

As I drove into the Bidford Gliding Club (Warwickshire, England) Wings n' Wheels event last Monday, I noticed this car in the Classics car park from about 400 yards away.

By coincidence, I had bought this 4-colour ballpen from the Nature In Art Gallery/ Museum the day before.

Nice pictures.  I think my dad had one like this in the early 50's.  Any idea what that can(?) that is sticking out the right side is?

Mike: excellent pics of a very nicely done car

Bob: I believe "the can" is an early form of an conditioner.

Thanks, I thought it looked like a siren (!!!), but Brue may be right about it being an air conditioner.

Thanks, it might well be an air conditioner.  I wish I had asked some questions.

Nicely done, Mike.

The can is an air conditioner, of sorts. See this:

Thanks Dan, that's a highly informative link and another interesting car.

JATO is the acronym for "Jet-Assisted Take-Off" - Typically an auxiliary unit mounted to an airplane to enable it to take off from short runways.

Here's a reference to its use in ground vehicles

LOL!!  Brilliant link.

With only one Jato like this, on the offside, the car could accelerate in ever-decreasing circles and disappear up its own exhaust pipe.

Good series, Mike.. well composed images, well detailed and painted shots, I like bright orange under dull rainy sky - thanks for diffusion of light and avoidance of distracting reflections on chrome details was achieved. Nice aerodynamic lines on the car - does it fly as-well? ( just kidding, ) Thank you for sharing..

Best regards,
