Any hidden improvement after D800 FW update?
May 13, 2014

I'd like to know if anyone noticed some improvement that has not been listed in the Nikon announcement.

In particular if live view has been in some way improved..AF speed in live view mode is the same?

Quality of the zoom-in whyle manual focusing in live view has improved?

I also have to ceck other bugs like focusing fast lenses with the af-assist light from the hot-shoe mounted flash but can't access my camera till next week so any information is very wellcome.

Thx to everyone!

Why don't you just update your camera and find out - That's what I'll do when I get home from work

Yes I read your post - What's the point if you even don't have access to your camera. Update your firmware when your have your camera and find out for yourself.

It's always good to ask because some people are more detail-oriented than others when it comes to hidden features and they tend to discover these stuff. The nicest feature so far is the ability to change ISO with the REC button, but other than that, everything else feels the same to me.

No worries bocajrs, my problem is that my d800 and d800E are both to Nikon for some small cleaning and repair, because i didn't plan to have eny big job these days..but i got one client who want a product's catalogue for next week and i will have to use a lot the live view function in studio, so i was planning to rent a D4s for the job but here in italy renting a d4s is really expensive(150 euros per day) while if there is evidence of some unespected improvements in the live view area(especially the noise issue when you zoom in on the subject for proper focus) i could simply rent a D800 that i also know better for half of the price!

Rent a sony A7R with a nikon lens adapter. Live view is a lot better and you dont need af for product shots.

It is much faster at making coffee now, and it is also a little stronger. The new menu item for "espresso" is a great enhancement.

another reason why this forum is not take seriously. I think dude posed an interesting question, but the usual suspects always find a way to ruin a good post with their pathetic sarcastic replies.

I know you're trying to be funny, but it's a thumbs-down fail.

Hi xtm, how do you implement this feature? Thanks,

Using the new customer setting f13. It allows you to define how the movie record button is used when the camera is in still shot mode. There are multiple options.

You can read about the feature here: http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/software/firmware/D800/D800_D800E_FirmUp_%2811%2901_En.pdf

It's pretty cool - being able to adjust ISO with your right hand only! Best wishes. -iwbs

Thanks for this iwbs. That's a feature that is more than welcome and which is worth the update in itself (to me at least).

Greetings,

Joris
