Help: what 20mm or less for A7 (slow, sharp and cheap)?

Hi everyone, I need your help

As the title says, I need a 20mm or less lens (for interior photography, so no fish-eye or lenses with a lot of weird distortions) for the A7.

It can be slow (I use flash), but it must be decently sharp (at least at F5.6-8). It can be a legacy MF lens (cheaper).

Any idea? I plan to use it until I get the 16-35 FE, therefore I don't want to invest too much.

I have adapters for Minolta (MC/MD/AF), Nikon, Hexanon, M42.

Thanks for any input you can give me!

What about VM12/15?

I myself am quite interested in VM12 since I use APSC, and should I want to run to fuji i can still use it.

If you have an A-mount adapter I recommend the old Minolta 20/2.8 AF lens. There are two versions and a Sony version. Quite decent lens imho.

Yes, the Minolta in Version RS was my first choice, but it goes for over 300 Euro. I was hoping to spend a little less than that (I let one escape for 200, I'm still biting my fingers..).

I would say a 20mm Nikon off this list with a 5 rating then sell it when you buy your other lens.

Should be easy to sell.

http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

KEH has 1 bargain and 1 ugly 20mm lenses that are pretty cheap.

One F4 and one F3.5, otherwise you will be paying $300-400.

Thanks for the tip but I don't have the adapter and I'm trying to go el-cheapo (and adapters don't sell well).

Nice quality though!

I live in Europe, so KEH is not an option unfortunately, only evilBay

I wish I didn't let that Minolta AF slip away, there's not another in available right now for a fair price (in good conditions and with lens hood)...

I'm having a look at some zooms, there seem to be some cheap option (about 100 Euro) in that range.

Just to make it clear, I'm trying to find a FF solution to substitute, at least in part, for my Sigma 8-16 on APS-C (I sold my A55 to finance the A7 and my second body, a NEX5N doesn't have an hot shoe nor can trigger an external flash).

I don't need to go as wide as 12mm on FF (way too expensive) and 20mm is still acceptable.

Luminous Landscape has an article on WA on the a7r. The VM symmetrical designs do not work well on FF.

Great link, thanks!
In the end I decided to pull the trigger on a Tokina AF 20-35, the price was very good and the reviews are good.
Let's see if I'm lucky

I had the Tokina 20-35 MK II (EF mount), worked well on film and crop. Far corners went downhill quick on my original 5D though. Post your thoughts after you have a chance to try it, i'm curious how it performs.

Hi Tim, thanks for the input!
As far as I can see, MK I and II have the same optical formula, the updates are minor, so MK I should perform similarly (and I prefer the smaller size). I need to use it stopped down, with a bit of luck it'll perform well enough.

Once I get it I'll compare it to my Sigma 8-16 and post the results.

Most legacy 20mm lenses (zoom or otherwise) will have a lot of field curvature.  Focus a bit out from the center to get better corner performance.

I use a Canon 20mm f/2.8 and think it is fine at f/8 or something, as long as you balance focus between edges and center.

"...and adapters don't sell well." Maybe so, but this all-manual adapter...
In reply to darkdirtydwarf, 7 months ago

...will cost you only a few bucks. Search for FD to Sony e on eBay. I ordered mine for about US$10. The Canon FD 20 sells for as little as about $200. Don't have 'mine' yet, so can't say how they work...but I just bought one.

My Tokina 3.5/17 in Pentax mount works well. A little CA easily fixed in LR.  The distortions you would expect, similarly easily fixed if necessary.  Fits all three criteria.

A cheap Pentax K-> Sony E adapter from eBay will suffice.

Rokinon/Bower/Samyang 14mm f2.8.

Not slow, extraordinarily sharp, about $300 new.

Will hold its value, resell when you get another lens.

OP - You know I just ordered one of these from KEH to try out on an A6000 so I can give you a report when I get it if you are interested.

This. Also get in EF mount to hold the best value, buy a $10 dumb EF adapter.
