HIGH ISO Star Photos, K5 does good!
9

Spent a night deep in the desert in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Took a few star pictures late at night, lighting the ground with my Metz AF 50 handheld. I used my Sigma 10-20 wide open at 10mm f4. Kinda getting interested in the Samyang 10mm f2.8 for these kinds of things!!!

ISO 3200, f4, 10mm 30s.

Thanks for looking,

Lloyd

K5 does good indeed. And so is your technique.

Can you expand on how you used your flash ? did it fire more than once for the first pic? It seems it covered a lot ...

Adding light makes the image.  Well done.

Thanks Younes,

I only fired it once, from off camera right, held it up as high as I could, and backed it down to 1/8 or so for the first one, maybe less for the second one. I just kept staggering back and forth in the dark to check the LCD untill it looked right. That is the most important technique is to review the LCD after EVERY shot, helps to have an assistant.

Thanks Roland, All I did for lighting was walk off to the side or around an object where I could flash the rocks to give them texture, then go back and look at the LCD. Then adjust my flash intensity and position accordingly. Once you have played with it a little it is easy!

Excellent images.  Not certain I completely understand how you did the lighting.  Something I have to try first hand.

Thanks for posting.
