**** Weekly Wildlife Thread 4-26 to 5-1 ****
8 months ago

It's Saturday somewhere so we can post from everywhere. Common or rare, pretty or not, let's see what you've got!

To post your pics, please reply to THIS post and change the title. Otherwise, in threaded mode, your post will appear to be a comment to another's post. We don't want to overlook your pics! Threaded mode lists posts in a hierarchy which is ideal for viewing threads like this one.

Try to limit pics to three or so and identify subjects if possible. It would be nice if you would provide location and other info others might find interesting. And do comment on others' pics if so moved. Everyone is welcome to participate with any camera, any time. Lurkers and new members please join in.

When out viewing and photographing wildlife, I want all of you to be safe. I also want the wildlife to remain safe and minimally impacted by our presence.

Swallow and Sapsucker
In reply to myssvictoria, 8 months ago

Both birds were at their tree hole nest sites. The FZ70 + Nikon TC allowed me to be far enough away as not to disturb.

Stunning. I always have trouble with birds. I almost never see them when I'm hiking, and when I do, they're either very far away, or through a bunch of bushes that prevent me from getting a clear shot. It's impressive that you can get such detailed, clean shots.

Very nice. Good composition, isolation from the background, eye contact, etc. Did you leave the piece of grass on the arm intentionally? That's the only little thing I might clone out in PP, but some people might say it adds to the charm.

This one is my favorite. I love everything about it. I haven't seen a hummingbird in person in about 20 years, but if I do, you can bet I'll be grabbing my camera.

I did remove a few black bits of shell on its white chest, a background twig (which is too obvious at 100%) that was distracting using the scratch removal tool, and some bird poop using on the stump using the clone tool - but didn't want to mess up the fur as I'm no whiz at cloning. It was a quick snap this morning to get this thread started - I had to crop a bit more than desired to get it to this point...

Although I had to heavily crop the shot, I like the composition and the size comparison between the hummingbird and the pine cone.

All at Semiahmoo, WA.  Taken with GM1 + 100-300, which outfit is close in spirit to a P&S, and in capability to an SLR.

Wonderful images Vickie!

Does your West coast Sapsucker drill rows of holes to store food too?

Take care, Paul
