My guess that it is for real. However, what will it be - a beefed up D7100 or a true D300s replacement.

I've been predicting the "D9000" since 2012.

Seems obvious to me that there will be no DX  D400, as that line has changed to FX with the D700, just as the D1/D2 line changed to FX with the D3.

It's looking like you may be right.  Who cares what it is called as long as it delivers.  Some have been saying that they(Nikon) haven't been able to get the FPS up with 24 mp with Expeed 3 and needed Expeed 4.  I don't care how fast it is just want a quality sensor and a weather proof body at least at D300 standards.

Nikon Rumors hinted at a non April fools posting yesterday. They probably had the info then but held for today. NR doesn't post cruel jokes. When he gets more info he will give his probablilty estimation then.

Knew this would happen as soon as I bought a 2nd D7100.

Why a cruel joke if we only have a name? There will be new Nikon cameras one way or another. This so-called rumor is totally uninformative.

How would you tell the difference Allan?
In reply to Allan Rube, 5 months ago

The choice of D9x000 designation suggests the possibility of a fresh approach merging some of the strengths of the Dx00 line and D7x000 line.  I certainly don't care if it's a carbon fiber reinforced plastic body if that is the appropriate way to get the optimal combination of strength and weight. On the other hand, I would really like to see a CF slot, AF-On button and a 10 pin connector (in that order of priority). But 8 fps, a decent raw buffer and great autofocus is what we wildlife shooters absolutely need from Nikon at this point. Do you see it differently?

Probably too much to hope for similiar to the D300 body construction.  As long is it is as weather proof as the D300.  I expect the FPS to be up there with the use of Expeed 4.  Not sure they will go the CF Card route but you never know.  Everything else you mentioned would make sense but this is Nikon were talking about.

CR are now suggesting that the EOS 7D Mark II will be announced in May. Looks like the weird game of chicken (You first!) between Canon and Nikon on Pro DX is coming to an end.

Just wonder when NR will get more info. Went back and re-read. This part stands out. "This is the first time I have heard something reliable on a high-end DX body".

I quite agree. I've had money laying in the bank account for several years, just waiting on a "true" d300 replacement, such as you describe.

Maybe the frustrating and seemingly interminable wait is finally over. Time will tell.

I think the choice of D9x000 designation suggest that it'll be a true D300 replacement except it'll be stuck in a small, cumbersome consumer body.
