Kirk L-bracket on D800

I'll be renting a D800 for an upcoming 3 week long project.

Any one know if the Kirk L-bracket I use on my D700 will fit?

Thanks

Paul

The main difference between the D700 L-Bracket

http://www.kirkphoto.com/L-bracket_for_Nikon_D700.html#

D700 L Bracket

and this D800 L-Bracket, http://www.kirkphoto.com/L-bracket_for_Nikon_D800.html

is where the screw attaches it the the camera tripod mount.

This L-Bracket can be adjusted further over, because of the screw slot, to allow more room for a larger body.

D800 L-11Bracket

You would have to measure the bracket you already have, from the centre of the mounting screw to the inside edge where it curves up. Then one of us could compare that measurement to our D800, for you.

Hey paul, yes the L bracket for the D700 camera will work on the D800 camera.

I did exactly that about a year ago. The thing to know is that it does not fit perfectly on the D800, but it fits fairly closely, so if you are just trying to make it work while renting the D800 then it will be more than adequate!!!

That's pretty awesome to learn.

Ok, well then put away the inside outside callipers... Hahaha

No need to buy the second bracket, or go without.

Enjoy that D800 by the way.

Chas,

Thanks for going to the trouble about this.

From the center of mount screw to inside edge of the back of the bracket is 16/32". The thickness of that edge is 2/32".

From center of screw laterally to the outside edge of the shorter vertical part of the "L" is 2 3/4". That shorter vertical arm clears the camera body by a tad over 1/8".

All I need is for the D800 bracket to be same size or slightly smaller with regard that back edge.  If necessary I'll just go ahead and buy the bracket as I'll probably buy the D800 after giving it a try out.

Thanks

Paul
