.

Thanks, Matt, for originating and continuing with the theme!

In a minimalist state of mind…

Hillside, Western Massachusetts

Driving from a conference to a friend's in the late afternoon, the sun was low in the southern sky. With all the snow and a cloudless sky, everything was so BRIGHT, crisp, and clear. There were many image possibilities, but i already had limited time to spend at my friend's so i was resisting the urge to stop at every flash of "Wow, look at that!".

Had to stop for this one, though. I would have liked a little more tree. I did have my snowshoes with me, and probably could have gained the hill a bit (after climbing a wire fence) to get a bit more of the white pine to reveal itself, but, again, was pressed for time.

Still, i think with the glaring snow and the oh-my-gosh-that's-a-really-blue sky, it conveys the starkness of the winter elements.

(Shot out the window of the car, after shuttling back and forth along the side of the road to maneuver the elements into position, bracing against the door frame, with the 55–210 on an NEX-7. It was about 18ºF and there were about three feet of snow on the ground.)

Cactus flower

This is a Hedgehog cactus taken at the Spur Cross Conservation Area in Cave Creek, Az. The contrast between the delicate flower and the rest of the plant always amazes me.

I chose this because I love the images of A7 more than any other camera I've had. I also chose this because I enjoy nature/landscape as a subject and this was a beautiful day out walking. This was taken with my favorite landscape zoom I've had for almost 10 years, the Canon 17-40/4L. It's been used on a succession of Canon crop and FF bodies, but now on the Metabones III adapter.

A7 with 17-40/4 on Metabones III.

Took this image at the butterfly conservatory in Cambridge, Ontario. An elderly lady was sitting on a bench with a butterfly on her hand. She was totally immersed in her contemplation.

I captured the image handheld with the NEX 5N and a Micro Nikkor 105/2.8 AI

Hi Matt, this is probably my favorite shot for the month. It's Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons of the Texas blues, boogie and rock band ZZ Top. Shot from my seat, in the music venue, using my NEX 5n and an old M/F Vivitar 100mm F/2.8 lens at F/2.8. I told 'em, they didn't have to get all dressed up just to play a little music for me, but they insisted.

I was out there last week - lots of rattlers near the trails.  Did you see any?

Color me nuts but what's technically a noisy nightmare is the most personal, most powerful picture I took this month.

I hope it translates, tells a story and evokes emotions on you, too.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Camera: A7, Lens: Minolta MD 75-150@150mm

Cheers,

David Hockney - enhanced?
6

Art Institute of Chicago, Modern Wing, Contemporary Art after 1960.  David Hockney "American Collectors".  NEX-7 SEL24/1.8Z  1/60 sec, f/2, ISO 200

When I saw what was missing from Hockney's composition, I handed the camera to my wife, laid down, and waited for the click.  Afterwards I asked the security guard how many people had done this.  She said, "You the first."

First month with the A7. I have been having fun with the Canon 17-40mm mounted on it.

A lot of people like this shot; I took it at a local bike shop. I'm kinda proud of it because it was the first shot I really like that I took feeling like I 'got the hang of' fine tuning the focus.

Just took this today, after buying the EVF for my 5N. What a difference it makes getting the fine focus on a telephoto lens!

All the best,

This isn't a masterpiece but I like the light.

Taken shortly after sunset on the Capital Mall in Salem, Oregon. A hard rain that evening knocked down most of the cherry blossoms, so nobody's getting this picture again until next March.  NEX-6, 16-70Z.
