New 60 photos real life from G1X mark II - night street view
5

Here a link from Flickr to see 60 photos taken with the

new G1X mark II. Most night street view at F:2 and some at relatively high ISO.

These photographies are not great aestically but show how this new camera is able to.

This is a + for me. What do you thing?

No bad for relatively high 800+ ISO. Good noise control.
Thanks for sharing.

Definite plus for me

Other than close up, and food photography, this will be the main purpose for the camera (night street shots)

I am still waiting for a large  series of day, night and macro shots taken with both the GIX and GIXII cameras.  The night street views are a good start, but how would the same shots taken with our GIX cameras have compared?

I have G1X since 2 years now. Very good night and low light shot. High ISO too are acceptable

until 3200.

But after seeing these night photos with the F:2, i thing that the mark ii is better.

I will wait some serious reviews; but i am very tented with the better lenses (2-3.9) and better shot to shot time.

Peter.

Wow, best pics so far. And quite sharp wide open.
Will be in Japan next week, was hoping to buy one there, as a replacement/more compact set for and old 20D with 17-55IS.

Wow, these shots shows what I'm looking for!

Take a look at the image called IMG_0030 in the largest version...
I really like the details in the green trees in this nightshot!

Now I'm just eager to get it in my hands to check if it's a "match"

at 12.5mm wide open they look sharp enough...none of that soft focus fuzziness we're seeing at macro distances. So if it's just a case of taking macro shots a stop down then I can live with that. Just that price to get over

Yes you can, simply use Chrome to navigate to the image at the "Original" size (say) and once it's displayed on the page simply right-click on the image and choose the "Inspect element" option.

This will show a lot of data including the relevant link to the image source (something like "<img src="https://farm8...8a1_k.jpg"), which you can then right-click and choose "Open link in new tab" and there you are, the image will be displayed at full size in the new tab and you can (finally) right-click over it and choose the "Save image as ..." option, as desired.

Not so sure about the macro shots about half way down the 2nd link. Extremely soft with little detail. Seems like the main problem is at minimum focal lengths. other than that it looks pretty sharp. Not so sure about the artifical depth of field effect on the cat photo - that one's not worked at all.

Re: New 60 photos real life from G1X mark II - night street view

From what I'm seeing, f2 is a bit soft (just like the RX100M2, Canon S120, @ f1.8), a few of the photos looks significantly sharper n had more detail at f3.9... very much like the RX100MII I had.

So, just like the RX100MII, f2 and close up macro distance = soft pics, and f2 and further distances are much sharper (see the japanese guy's flickr of night time building pics at f2).

If you're going to shoot close up macro, don't shoot at f2, that's how to fix the issue...

A lot of people are trying to make this a G1X M2 issue specifically, but it's not, its also present on a lot of new modern cameras. It's not a G1X issue specifically.

Around the soft focus pics in the 2nd link it seems like he says something about a built in ND filter you can switch off and on. Not sure if this has any impact on the softness or not?

edit, ah I guess it says something about the ND filter bringing out the colors or something and that there's no visual indicator off ND being either on or off. Same as with the G1X. Some G1x pics here, seems quite useful:
