Could someone please tell me how to use the focus lock on my SX 50? I have read

the small paragraph in the manual and I still don't get it. Can you use it in

auto Or do you have to  be in other modes? Nothing seems to work for me.

Hi Frizzen: So what happened when you tried the suggested technique in ‘other modes’?

I’ve just marvelled at your Jupiter and moon shots. Absolutely amazed; well done.

Focus lock is easiest to use when it is assigned to the Shortcut button. When you want to focus, just press the "S" button till you get the confirm beep and "AFL" appears at the top of the screen. It will hold that focus until you take the image, or until you touch the zoom lever to disengage it. Remember, the Shortcut button can be assigned with different tasks for different modes on the camera.

Hope this helps.

Frizzen,

I too am amazed at your Jupiter photo with its moons!  Well done.

I just tried AF Lock with my camera set to Tv and it seemed to work as explained in the manual.  I held the shutter button down half way and then pressed the nine o'clock outer edge of the large control wheel on the back of the camera.  In the viewfinder/LCD it showed MF and the little distance gauge and stayed at that focus point under I repeated the same steps to turn AF Lock off.  It does not work in AUTO but you can see on pages 260-261 which shooting modes it does work.  Hope this helps?

OK, Thank you all very much for helping me out and the kind words about my pictures. I turned Servo off and it worked! I did put it on the shortcut button and all is working as it should. I will try Saturn next.  Thanks again.

Phil
