Sunset without a cloud...

Sunsets can be nice even without a cloud in the sky.

Three shots taken with 1 to 2 seconds interval. Shot through the glass window of the first floor room at my place.

Straight out of the camera, no PP, K5-IIs + Sigma 105macro.

Hope you like them.

Ben

I agree, i love the silhouettes.

Here is one from last summer at 500mm:

i wish i had someone standing on the top of that hill, it would have made a really nice image.

Nice shots..... one question. Are these straight out of the camera or there was any post-processing done?  Asking because I can see severe banding effect in the first picture and also moderate banding the #2 and #3.

Thanks.

And what do you exactly mean by banding?

Have you ever posted an image in a webpage? Downsizing makes images look weird.

Thank you.

They are basically straight out of the camera with the exception of a minor contrast addition to #2 and #3. I applied a little cropping and re-sized to 1200 pixels wide.

To keep in mind that the shots were taken through a glass window. However I don't seem to notice any banding on my PC especially in #1, so I don't really know what you're referring to.

I think the banding is due to the limitations of save-for-web jpgs. Unless you fry a channel when shooting RAW, there should be no banding, at least not with 14 bits per channel. For 8-bit-per-channel jpgs aren't able to reproduce colors with such accuracy. It also could be the performance and calibration of the screen we're seeing. Clear skies are a torture-test in that respect!

It can be due to the re sizing and also, as you say, to the calibration of the screen.

I checked the original full size files and could not see any visible banding. In actual fact the first image is the one that looks the best a part from that circular radiance around the setting son.

I am not an expert but I would call them banding...are they?

I thinks it's called color banding, but i wouldn't bet on it.
