Is this the first time that the K20D, K-x and earlier models are being left in the dust? Someone should probably publish a timeline so that people can see what will and won't work with older bodies.

Thanks Ron,

the FW updates are listed, but not all update files are downloadable yet (f.ex. K-5 II).

Will you check which EXIF data will be changed/added by the new converter?

Phil Harvey (exiftool) sure will like to know (for all the exiftool users).

OK, so have you tested your third party TCs to see if they work now?

Just wondering if the new firmware resolves the issues with the old third party TCs as people thought it might, or lately might not.

Thank you

The K-5 IIs update - currently not available

Currently not available?

I've downloaded the FW 1.16 for the K-5 but didn't see the update FW 1.07 for the K-5 II and K-5 IIs.

Would you please look at the update files when they reappear? Especially for the sub-version numbers (1.07.xx.yy)? - Thanks

FW 1.07 for K-5 II and K-IIs is available again.

For the K-5 II FW version now is 1.07.24.16 (was 1.06.23.14 before).

So as suspected its a two part solution

Fw and Pentax adapter

Now all I need to know is will the Pentax adapter drive Sigma HSM properly.?

Ron I'm counting on you as I need to order before Monday for a meet next weekend if its a go , No pressure

Seems strange how many sales to Ricoh throw down the toilet by not describing their products properly ?

They must know what people want , If the product will drive 3rd party in lens motors correctly then £379 is a done deal.

They won't say it for the same reason they won't say their cameras works with 3rd-party lenses.

First, it's not just a claim; they would have to test lenses which are using reverse engineered protocols. And if e.g. Sigma screws it up, Pentax would have to assume responsibility. That's not going to happen.

Besides, Pentax wants to promote using their own products; people might want cheaper 3rd-party lenses but Pentax won't tell them to do so.

I don't see it from that point of view though you have a valid view.

The converter is late to the party it's reasonable to assume possible purchases have already bought the lens they intend to use it with.

The goal has to be to sell as many 'converters' as possible before any third parties appear.

I note in the spec stating any 3rd party lens compatibility even with a disclaimer would massively increase the market impact of the converter.

We have a saying cutting off your nose to spite your face.! which is what Ricoh are doing with this product (if it does have 3rd capability).

Potential sales will not happen because of confusion as to it's applicability to users existing glass.

This lack of initial take-up may end up being 3rd party converter sales or even longer 3rd party glass.

so IMO not making a statement on the converter global appeal far from protecting Ricoh assets will have the opposite effect not generating additional lens sales and damping converter enthusiasm .

Of cause if there is no 3rd party working saying that as well would help with purchasing decisions .

Take my case I'm 80% SDM 20% HSM , If the converter worked with all I'd have pre-ordered happily, If it was reported it didn't work then I probably would have still ordered.

Because we just don't know I decided to wait

I will wait for 'user reports and monitor any 'Sigma' response to incompatibility.

Sigma are likely to take one of two paths.

1 release their own converters with both SDM/HSM

2 update FW for Ricoh compatibility.

If Sigma announce option 1 I will not be buying the Ricoh product

The .bin file for the K5II v1.07 upgrade extracts with the same file name as the previous v1.06 upgrade, i.e.. fwdc216b.bin.

Anyone else have this problem please? Does it make a difference to the upgrade?
