The second one is covered in moire.  From the lens' point of view, that's a good thing - it's sharp enough to push detail right through the 5DIII's AA filter.  From the camera's point of view, it needs smaller pixels or a stronger AA filter.

Either way, thanks for the shots - pretty amazing optical performance.

Weight is good, and it's well balance.  If everything goes well, it can replace my Canon 300 2.8 II + 2X.

WOW, that sounds great,, I have this on pre-order and still waiting, can you please post a few 600mm shots and how is that compare to the 300 F2.8 + TC, I am not expecting any miracle from this lens and definitely wouldn't even dream about compare it to the 300 2.8 + 2X TC, but if it's anywhere even near that optic performance I would be extremely happy consider a such low price tag.

Tnx for posting (decent) RAW files, it gives the chance to make a judgement based on the own workflow.

The moire in the second picture shows what the 150-600 is able to, quite impressive, and even the first picture @600mm is beyond my expectations.

Regards, Sandor.

PS I would not mind few more RAWs ....

Moiré patern on the feather detail of the black bird, which is usually a sign for good sharpness and is sometimes seen on camera's with a weak aa filter.

BTW the moire pattern is not very visible in the pictures the OP posted. I converted the RAW files with camera RAW and those pictures  show moire. Applying some noise reduction reduces or removes the pattern without loosing too much detail.

Some opinions over at FM site
In reply to maarensv, 10 months ago

A few users posting their experiences with the lens on the Fred Miranda site.

Seems some have had unsatisfactory performance with AI Servo tracking on 7D while the 6D seems to work more as expected.

Any the Canon Forum over there has a couple of threads from hands on experience.

That's what I thought.

Okay.
