+*+*+*+ You and your m43 this week +*+*+*+
6 months ago

It's the rainy season here in beautiful Rabaul and just to prove the point for doubters, it is gray all over and raining. Has been for several days. I mean, it looks promising in the morning, but then in the afternoon it clouds over the the storm fronts roll through on the north-west monsoon wind.

But thanks to the cooperation of Telikom PNG which fixed their tower this morning so I could get on the internet this afternoon, I am about the launch this week's series with a couple of nothing pix.

You knows the gen:

1. Take a pic, preferably with your m43.

2. Reply to this post, CHANGING THE SUBJECT LINE TO REFLECT YOUR PIC AND POST.

3. Include your pic(s) in the reply.

4. Sit back prepared to bask in the plentitude of praise that will rain down upon you.

Love this thread -- so many excellent and instructive pix posted.

Cheers, geoff

Nothing pix to kick off the thread
In reply to Hen3ry, 6 months ago

I humbly hope EVERYONE else will do better and thus uphold the thread's reputation!

I TOLD you that built in flash on the G6 would be useful! Frog outside back door, grab camera, flip flash, and "snap" - gotcha. And with the 16MPX sensor, I was able to take just the middle third out of the image and still have plenty of quality to send to my nephew who is a frog and snake specialist. With the f2.8 12-35 fitted, the camera on program selected f2.8 and the focus is just a little behind the head (maybe because I leaned into the shot after locking focus). I need to investigate those two things.

A bit more interesting -- at least to me. A storm from approaching Takubar. Rabaul and Vulcan volcano are totally blotted out. Ten minutes later, rain was bucketing down. Of course, it was still warm though! Note the bit of blue sky out to the right. The storm passed in about half an hour! While I was taking this pic with the G6, the leveling device appeared -- involuntarily from my point of view -- and while it was welcome, I must check out how that happened. Still a long way to go in learning the G6 but enjoying the ride!

Cheers, geoff

Some of the floods in England have created some beautiful temporary lakes. Not that the people who have flooded houses would agree.

Carnival
In reply to Hen3ry, 6 months ago

I went to a typical Northern Italian Carnival in Castelnovo Sotto.  Huge floats are towed round and round the centre of the town. It is a rather boisterous affair with the people on the floats pelting the onlookers with paper confetti. Nothing to do with the refined Venice Carnival.

It is impossible to avoid being covered in paper confetti.  But good fun to photograph.

I like all three of those Wormsmeat. I went through them several times trying to decide which I liked best but I failed.

Hawks and more
In reply to Hen3ry, 6 months ago

My best attempts for the week. Constructive criticism encouraged so next week's can be better.

I'm especially interested in which of the hawks shots you prefer and if there is anything special about the sunrise shot.

After sending this I'm on my way to a park I've never been to hoping to get some good photos.

What a nice thing to get up to on a Saturday morning

These are FANTASTIC. I've looked at them for ages trying to see if there is one I could pick but it's really tough. The second might have the tiniest little edge if just from the foreground colour. This provides 3 excellent reasons for me to stay away from trees.

I have some nice, tree-free pictures coming up  later today.

Must be a great place to live. The levelling tool is a useful feature, it's easy for one's instincts to take over, going by what looks right but the levelling tool is rarely 'wrong'.

I love the third but feel there's a photo inside that one. The lone tree with the lines leading up to it would have been too tempting for me.
