For the 23, 1/(23 + 35) = 1/58, so I use 1/60 as a minimum and that's fine - as your JPG shows. The real mystery you have is why the default output from RAW is not sharp - what are you using to post-process?

LR5

Do you use the defaults on import? (Sharpening amount 25, Radius 1.0)

Yes

Could you show us the Samsung camera shot exported at LR5 defaults? Just want to look at the sharpness compared to the earlier JPG (which was OOC?).

There are places where that's really in focus and sharp, but maybe not the places you intended?

No, I absolutley love it! Not sure how that impression came across. I've been out with the lens again many times, including today, and I love using it.

Sorry this is the correct one:

That's actually not bad; the script on the front of the lens is better lit and looks sharper than the "Samsung" on the barrel.  Pushing it up 0.33 and setting the sharpening amount to 40 would likely clean it up nicely.

The shot itself might well have benefitted from spot metering and have saved you from pushing the exposure up.

What if shutterspeed was set to 1/125s ?

I suspect this may be something in focus, depth of field. You seem to be very close to the subject and at f/1.4 the d.o.f. would be very small. The Samsung letters on the lens seem to be in focus, the bottom of the camera is not.

My post was related to the RAW file. The JPEG is tack sharp.

So sharpen the RAW file.

But i still don't understand why there is so much difference in sharpness....

The Jpeg was obviously sharpened in camera.

Now you know.

Very interesting, I nearly started a thread on this.

I think minimum shutter speed is one of the disadvantages of smaller formats; before Fuji enabled min speed in Auto ISO, it used to default to 1/F where the F is full-frame equivalent - so with the 35mm, it would go to 1/52.

Now, I don't have fun with that 1/F. In my experience, it works a lot better with 1/(full frame F + APS-C F), which would make the 35 require 1/(35 + 50) = 1/85; in practice, 1/100 (and I notice that Bert Stephani uses this too).

For the 23, 1/(23 + 35) = 1/58, so I use 1/60 as a minimum and that's fine - as your JPG shows. The real mystery you have is why the default output from RAW is not sharp - what are you using to post-process?

Yes

Try sharpen 30 detail 50.

I tried this 23mm lens yesterday in combination with the X-E1 and it's a very very nice lens indeed. The pull/push ring for manual zoom is fantastic. I think the 35mm lens is on par with sharpness, but the 23mm is more versatile. Of course leave out of consideration the price for the 23mm lens

I <3 my 23. I do go stale with it very occasionally and then I use the 27, 35 or the OM 50 for a few days... and then the 23 goes back on.

Do you use the 23mm also for some kind of macro-photography ?

Do you know the minimum focus distance ?

I haven't used the 23 for any macro with the Fotga tubes, don't really want to tbh. The MFD is marked under the pull-back as 0.28m.

I do not think it is shutter shock but more the combination of choosing slow aperture with indoor conditions (difficult light).
