X-E1 and XF27mm in silver
Feb 20, 2014

Just received my 27mm lens in silver. I think it gives the X-E1 a X100Sesque look...what do you think.

The lens itself seems fast focusing and sharp. Can't wait to shoot more with it. A couple of shots of the camera and lens and a few samples from the combo.

1. I think the silver works well with the body.

2. For the price I think it's a steal.

3. Random shot from work. f2.8, 1/90. iso400

4. Random shot from work.  f2.8, 1/480, iso800

5. Random shot from work.  f5.6, 1/240, iso800

6. Random shot from work.  f8, 1/400, iso800

Nice. Silver is the best color to compliment the silver body. I did the same with a Voigtlander 15mm. Nice pics

I like the silver too and even added this cheap metal hood for shooting into bright lights. (The 27 really does not need a hood very much)

I bit the bullet and ordered the 27mm along with the 23mm in the recent sale. I got the silver to match my silver X-E2 and it looks fantastic. It's a great combo and the lens is much better than I expected it to be. It isn't as pretty as the x100, but it's pretty darn... pretty.

How do you like the Lensmate soft release?  I am looking at the red version of that one, as well as the thumb grip for my X-E1 when it arrives.

+1 on that question.

Fyi, the LM thumb grip is perfect, highly recommend it.

The soft release is great although I bought mine before they started including the o-ring so mine sometimes unscrews over time.  Supposedly the o-ring prevents loosening of the release.  The thumb grip is excellent!

You can use plumbers teflon tape around the threads to fix that.

Yes... It is a very old Domke strap (with the swivel snap/hooks) that also has "Canon" on the other side of the leather.

Thanks, I thought so. I have a bid on one on ebay and that too has the Canon logo, I'll swap the strap off my SL1 and put that one on it.

Seeing the photo of your setup, I've got a handling question.  I've been hanging fire on the X-e1 at the $719 price...my hold up has been mostly on the way the camera feels in my hands -- just a bit cramped, in a way my even smaller Olympus E-PL2 does not.  So I'm wondering how much your thumb grip helps the overall feel of the rig. What's the change over the naked camera?

Thanks.

So, with larger lenses, like the 55-200 (which I just received :-D),the thumb grip make a big difference in handling.  The setup just feels more stable and balanced.  With smaller lenses there may not be that much of a difference.  One thing I just realized is that with the 27mm and the thumb grip you won't have any inadvertent changes of apertures by hitting the control wheel.  I think that is a plus when using the 27mm for sure.

Does the tape cause any issues if I wanted to remove the soft rrlease ? Any ill effects for using a remote shutter release?
